Pool Safety For Family And Friends

Page 1

Each year there are numerous accidents and fatalities around swimming pools. Families still install them without thinking much about this side of things, simply wanting a fun way to escape the heat. If you really want to have fun around your pool, you need to ensure that your whole family understands how to be safe around it. The first rule is to never let anybody swim alone. Implementing a buddy system is a good idea if you have more than one child. Above ground pools are safer than in ground pools simply because you cannot easily trip and fall into an above ground one. So if you have an in ground pull make sure your children never play around it on their own and if you can fence in the pool area. No running is an obvious rule that you see at every public pool, you should have the same rule, there should also never be any reason to play around with any tricycles or bikes by the poolside. If you own a pool that is above ground, you can easily fence it in or have a ladder that can be moved out of reach. Make sure the ladder is sturdy and appropriately installed. Do not let anybody play on the edge of the pool, so no walking around or sitting on it, it could easily collapse or the person doing it could fall off. You will also have to make sure the mechanical components of the pool are looked after properly, such as the filters and pumps. Being electric there is an obvious need to maintain them properly. Chemicals such as chlorine need to be locked away so your kids or pets can not get to them. Each person who has owned a pool before understand the constant need for maintenance it requires. Pools that are not correctly maintained will attract a host of insects that can carry and pass on diseases, such as mosquitoes. This might seem like hyperbole to you, however you need to realize that is not the case. Pools are amazing and can offer continuous fun for the whole family, however if you do not treat them with respect they can become a nightmare. Always have adult supervision around the pool if children are present. Keep and eye on the kids to make sure they don’t run and accidentally fall into the pool. Trust your self.
