DOLLARS at WORK FROM DONATIONS TO IMPACT STRONGER TOGETHER 2016 Campaign for Jewish Needs

DO IT FOR OUR COMMUNIT Y “I AM THE CHAIR OF THE 2016 CAMPAIGN FOR JEWISH NEEDS, THE ANNUAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN THAT ENSURES OUR COMMUNITY’S VITALITY AND VIBRANCY IN THE YEAR AHEAD. WHETHER WE ARE FEEDING THE HUNGRY, COMFORTING THE SICK, CARING FOR THE ELDERLY, EDUCATING OUR YOUTH, ENSURING A JEWISH FUTURE, OR SUPPORTING ISRAEL, OUR JEWISH COMMUNITY STANDS TOGETHER. AND TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. I HOPE YOU’LL JOIN ME IN CELEBRATING WHAT WE’VE ACCOMPLISHED, AND BE INSPIRED TO HELP MAKE THIS YEAR OUR BEST ONE YET.”

—DAN ZELMAN

SEE YOUR IMPACT

DO IT FOR C LEVELAND WE ASPIRE TO LEAVE NO COMMUNITY MEMBER BEHIND 36% of Cleveland Jewish households say they are “just managing” financially. That’s why in just one year our community provided over 3,600 local students with financial aid to attend preschool, day school, summer camp or college. When tragedy strikes, our community has a support network for people like Marci, whose children deserve the stability of staying in their nurturing Jewish classrooms and building their Jewish identity. When we work together none of us are alone.

“BECAUSE OF THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT THAT THE JEWISH COMMUNITY GIVES TO THE FEDERATION, AND THE FEDERATION THEN ALLOCATES TO PEOPLE IN NEED, WE ARE ABLE TO KEEP THINGS AS CONSISTENT AS POSSIBLE IN OUR FAMILY.” —MARCI

DO IT FOR THE CLEVELAND AND ISRAEL CONNECTION “FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER COMING TO ISRAEL I TRAVELED THE SAME PATH MY GRANDPARENTS DID DECADES AGO, WALKING ON THE GROUND THEY WALKED ON, SITTING WHERE THEY SAT. THEY ALWAYS TOLD ME ISRAEL IS HOME. SOMEWHERE DEEP IN MY HEART I KNEW THEY WERE RIGHT.”

—ANDRIA

WE BUILD JEWISH IDENTITY 39 national college campuses are expected to combat student-led divestment efforts in the coming school year as part of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement (BDS), which threatens to delegitimize the state of Israel. That’s why, in just one year, our community helped send approximately 45,000 young adults from across the country and around the globe to Israel. These young people are the voice of the next generation, sharing our Jewish pride among their peers today and into the future. When we work together none of us are alone.

DO IT FOR ISRAEL

WE PROVIDE UNWAVERING SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL

82

%

82% of Druze men enlist in the Israeli army and nearly all of them face difficulties in social and cultural integration when they leave. That’s why our Cleveland community invests in training programs to help people from all backgrounds succeed in Israeli society. In just one year, our intervention and training programs for at-risk Israeli men and women have helped change more than 6,000 lives. When we work together none of us are alone.

“WE ARE READY TO SACRIFICE OUR LIVES AND DEFEND OUR PEOPLE AND COUNTRY, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME SEEKING PEACE AND FREEDOM TO CREATE A BETTER WORLD FOR OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, AND FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO COME.”

—RUSHDI

DO IT FOR THE ISRAEL AND AROUND-THE-GLOBE CONNECTION “THE EXCITEMENT CAME AS WE LANDED IN ISRAEL. OLIM WERE KNEELING DOWN AND KISSING THE GROUND. IT WAS A VERY POWERFUL MOMENT TO SEE THE FULL SPECTRUM OF THE WORK THAT THE FEDERATION IS DOING.” —BRYAN

WE SECURE OUR JEWISH FUTURE

THOUSANDS

Relative to its size, Israel is the largest immigrantabsorbing nation on earth. Each year, our Cleveland community works with our international partner, the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), to help thousands of Jews from around the world make aliyah to Israel. When Jews are struggling and need a safe haven, we are there to support them. When we work together none of us are alone.

DO IT FOR 70 COUNTRIES AROUND THE DO GLOBE IT FOR WE CARE FOR JEWS WHEREVER THEY ARE

70K

70,000 Jews are estimated to live well below the poverty line in Ukraine, where violence has erupted and conflict continues. That’s why we work with our international partner, the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), to offer a lifeline to basic needs. For tens of thousands of destitute seniors and families living across the globe and around the corner, we provide essentials like food, medicine, and home care. We are caring for family members we have never met. When we work together none of us are alone.

“SHELL FRAGMENTS WERE ALL OVER THE BED. THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE APARTMENT. IT FELT LIKE SOMETHING HOT FLEW OVER ME. I FROZE WITH FEAR. I COULD NOT REALIZE HOW I WOULD SURVIVE… WE WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED THESE MONTHS WITHOUT YOU.” —RAISA

* From 2009 through 2014, the Jewish Federation Endowment Fund Committee provided grants each year to be used for local needs. In 2014-15, “Prior Year Collections (PYC)” replaced this funding. PYC refers to funds collected for prior years’ campaigns that had originally been reserved as part of shrinkage. The Federation Board of Trustees determined PYC funds will supplement the campaign at a declining rate until 2019-20.
