JCI Sibu hosted a welcome dinner for the 4-member delegation of JCI Cebu Inc. during JCI Sibu’s General Membership Meeting where the Cebuano Jaycees met JCI Sibu’s current BODs, members and past national and local presidents.
Both JCI Cebu Inc. and JCI Sibu also paid courtesy visits to the only university in Sibu - University of Technology Sarawak, a world class university which prides itself for using 50% less energy comparing to a typical building, using technologies such as LED bulbs with motion sensors, harvesting rainwater for ponds, airconditioning, flushing toilets, and gardening.
Both chapters also visited the 2011 JCI Malaysia National President and currently the Sarawak State Assembly Man for N51 Bukit Assek, YB Joseph Chieng Jin Ek. YB Joseph discussed about his Smart City Plans for Sibu. Both chapters also discussed with the YB how might JCI be able to help in Sibu’s development. All agreed to help in dengue awareness which is a problem not just in Sibu but in Cebu, Philippines as well. This challenge was used as the theme for the design thinking workshop done by both chapters.
A dialogue session was also conducted where both chapters shared projects for international collaborations.
