. Dear Readers “Service is the direct path to a meaningful life”. Jay Shetty It is with immense pleasure for me to share my message as your Local President in our second newsletter for 2022. Foremost, I wish to congratulate the entire JCI City Plus family as we successfully managed to host both of the National flagship projects assigned to us notably the 2022 JCI Mauritius Debate Championship and the 2022 JCI Mauritius The Outstanding Young Person (TOYP). Thank you to our sponsors Magellan Mauritius, Jetha Tulsidas and Mauritius Business Network. On the local projects front, we have started the second phase of Global Leadership Sprint where we had a very insightful training session with NPCC on innovative thinking as part of our international cooperation project with JCI New York City. On the community action side, we had two sessions till now with our future leaders of Residence La Chaux and we are gearing up for future sessions with them as part of our cooperation with Rotaract Mahebourg. JCI City Plus has also launched a green project this year around Yes to Sustainability! where we are focusing on recycling, planting and cleaning. On the business and entrepreneurship side, we are also looking forward for our project of free IT literacy courses for the women entrepreneurs of EFOI.
August will also see us launching our training series on Leadership under the individual development sphere which would ultimately culminate in a 2-day residential training in September as part of our 15th anniversary celebrations. However, we are not stopping here and I can tell you that the rest of 2022 would be even more enthralling as we are planning various projects and surprises with the next one being our members meeting on Ile aux Cerfs this Sunday 17 July 2022. We are also looking to grow the JCI City Plus Family in the second half of the year where we already have our enthusiastic aspiring members working tediously on various projects. We hence look forward to end this year on a high note where we have truly empowered the next Gen of Leaders. Last but not the least, I also wish to convey my gratitude to my Board for toiling hard, our members, senators and aspiring members for their support for making our organisation shine bright and our editorial team for pulling off this amazing newsletter! . Dear Readers, Greetings! Firstly, I wish to express my thanks to Local President Ben, Local Board members and the newsletter team for giving me the opportunity to share my message for the second issue of JCI City Plus e-newsletter. I would like to convey my appreciation to amazing members of JCI City Plus for the impactful projects accomplished since the beginning of the year. In line with the pillar workforce recovery of JCI RISE, we have officially launched our Youth Mentoring Programme with over 100 mentees and around 80 mentors. NEW MEMBERS Dear readers, She is an official member of the JCI City Plus since May 2022. Her name is Venila Parsooramen. And Venila Parsooramen is me!
What Inspires me?
“In a gentle way, you can shake the world”! And this is the reason why I have joined the Junior Chamber International. I wanted to be part of a group with young active citizens, who takes action to impact the society. I have an interest in volunteering work to help our community.
Why volunteering ?
It enabled me to enhance my personal and interpersonal development as well as gain confidence by giving me the chance to try something new and build a real sense of achievement. You get to meet new people and make new friends.
Why do I have an interest in getting involved in Volunteering Work?
Fast forward to 2022, I wanted to have the same experience as 12 years ago. And this is why I decided to join the JCI.
12 years ago, I got introduced to “Volunteering” through the CAS program, which is one of the core components of the International Baccalaureate.
If like me, you have a keen interest to help the society, and make new friends, I would recommend joining JCI !

RAVI SOOBRAYDOO
I was born in the early 80s, the best era ever. For a typical Mauritian boy I have always felt rather distinctive in my decisions since a very young age. Little me grew up listening to Opera, Classical music, Jazz and Blues. Teenager me discovered a passion for rugby and became a devoted All Blacks fan. Later creativity stung me and has now taken a huge part of my life, in my work and my personal life as well. I express my creativity through my work, contemporary art and manual work, mostly woodworking. I was pulled towards electrical engineering during my college years. I tried to follow in my dad's footsteps, but after university, I unexpectedly ended up working for Maersk Line, and I mysteriously found a profound love for business. I think Maersk was the tipping point for my passion for business and entrepreneurship, which ergo resulted in my career change. I eventually pursued my studies, Master, Executive MBA, CIMA, and other qualifications that would help me become and thrive as a businessman. Along the way, I had the opportunities to work for several other companies, internationally and locally, and encounter amazing, loving and great human beings who contributed to enhance my experiences and my personal development. However my baby is Digital Ratz Agency, which I co-founded with the love of my life. It was born out of a discussion on how we can help SMEs and entrepreneurs to develop their business. We saw the huge opportunities, and market demands, and we just jumped in, without giving a second thought.
WHY JCI CITY PLUS ? I believe in the law of the universe, ‘The more you contribute to the universe, the more you get back.’ The universe always finds a way to give you back with interest. I believe that we embodied the same values. If I could summarize ME in a few lines, it would be : Opera and Classical Groupie Vinyl Collector Rugby Devotee All Blacks Fanatic Ardent Bibliophile Art Wacky

Training Professional Development Workshop delivered by Past President Chimene Dacruz-Valery in collaboration with Rotaract club of Rose-Belle.
It was a real pleasure delivering the Communicate to Lead training to the Rotaract team as part of the professional development workshop initiative. It was an opportunity to share as well as learn with them along the way. Communication is a powerful tool and never-ending learning theme as each and everyone of us see things in a different way. The workshop was interactive and the participants engaged. I had the opportunity to hear new experiences that others have lived and also I had the opportunity to experiment new techniques I came across prior to the presentation which helped me upskill myself as well as others.
Post Wakashio Empowerment Project With our objective to build the next generation of enterprising young leaders at Residence La Chaux, Mahebourg, we conducted a session on road safety today, particularly focused on bicycles so as to equip the next generation with the right knowledge when riding bicycles. We thank Constable Raghu for delivering the Road Safety session, which will be helpful to the youngsters who also compete in cycling competitions. The next session held on 25 June, was a team-building activity including slam and games, with the incomparable Senator Yudhish Rama and his accolyte for the day, Mr. Sarju.

On the other hand, the TOYP allowed me to meet and know twenty-eight (28) awe-inspiring people who demonstrated their ability and commitment to their passion and to the service to humanity.
