John Arthur Carr Muralist/Street Artist for Hire Brooklyn,NY @JCBKNYC - JCBKNYC.COM My passion is to create attractive and meaningful work for public spaces that meet the criteria of the client and community with special attention given to detail and communication. As an active graffiti/street artist over the past decade, I’ve developed my skills with spray paint and brush garnering a reputation for delivering the highest creativity, on budget, with a passion for excellence at increasingly larger scale and exposure. My mural work can be seen all over New York City for the past 7+ years with my largest mural completed at the World Trade Center July 2018. I’ve been exhibiting in major Galleries all over NYC with Established Artists, currently working on my first solo show, while constantly developing the work in the studio and on the streets. Working as an Digital Designer and Art Director in many of NYC’s largest Agencies for over 20 years, I developed a work ethic and attention to detail that I’ve brought to my public work. From budgeting and pixel-perfect accuracy, great communication and efficiency, these mostly corporate experiences have given me the discipline and confidence to accell and exceed on every public arts project. Below, please find the highlights of my career thus far and some background information on the artwork and its origins.

Follow Your Heart Mural at the future site of Tower 2 World Trade Center, 2018

About a week in to working on Todd Grey’s Pop Masterwork, I began talking with Silverstein Properties about their vision and they asked if I’d beinterested in curating the massive Church Street wall to which I immediately said yes. Silverstein’s Robert Marcucci explained their vision of a kaleidoscopic, fantasy city, vibrant and joyful. They wanted to speak to the transportation hub aspect of the property and bring it new life. Taking a step back on Church street I realized the wall was nicely positioned with the One World Trade centered with the Oculus and Federal Building perfectly framing on either side. In front of the wall was a brand new park so I knew visitors would be gathering and spending time there.

Follow Your Heart Mural at the future site of Tower 2 World Trade Center, 2018 I decided to create a Selfie Wall using a transportation theme, including fantasy-colored characters with likable and emotive features that people could pose with. I included construction workers, tourists, a woman walking her dog etc. to reflect the diversity and energy of downtown NYC. After going back and forth for a couple of days with Silverstein Properties, we presented to Port Authority, they were ecstatic, approved and rushed right into production. The next 2 weeks were filled with hard work but even more magic as I received a lot of help from my friends to get this thing done in time. Assist on Todd Grey’s Mega Mural at WTC site worked closely with Todd and team to create his adhesive vinyl cut stencil masterwork. Assist on Brolga’s Mega Mural at WTC site worked closely with Tom and team to create his brush painted masterwork.

Starting with 8 gates along 125th Street, I was asked to paint another 2 on Lexington as part of Old School Jam, a live community event held by Uptown Grand Central and featuring DJ TedSmooth. Super excited to work with this awesome organization as they expand even more to Brooklyn in 2018!

Art for WTC Tower4 https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/20/nyregion/world-trade-center-graffiti.html

Was thrilled to be asked by @listentoizzychurch @marten.kayle w/ @worldtradegallery to create a stand alone installation to be showcased on the 69th floor of Tower 4 as part of a larger installation with some of Street Art”s biggest and brightest. This install lasted for months at what are now Spotify’s 11 floors of offices. At first I thought about projection/video work as I work with animation and wanted to showcase/flex a little . The thought quickly turned to early film making and the mechanics involved with the praxinoscope. I wanted it large enough for folks to interact with, I set upon building this 38” version from scratch. Using flex plywood, mirrors bearings , paint print out etc with plans I created w/ a free online 3D program. The images are of Dorothy taking a bite out of the apple, referencing what was about to happen. ♂ I Aalso included was a second animation strip which features a 12 frame vector animation of Sallie Gardener at the Gallop. “ the world”s first motion picture” (1878) viewers could interchange the two animation strips and spin, creating the effect that can be viewed from all sides. As the cylinder rotates, so do the 12 mirrors, which, when reflecting the 12 “ frames” creates the animated illusion. The outside is hand painted with One Shot in my dna/tribal style I’ve been rocking for about 8 years. This is the first piece that fuses the iconic imagery with this style. and is one of my favorite creations as it challenged a lot of my skills and requiring me to get better.

Welling Court Mural Project Astoria Queens, New York 2012-18 In 2012, AdHoc Art asked if I’d like to paint a wall for the Annual mural event happening each year in a community in Queens. Some of street art’s biggest names can be seen each year i addtion to media/bloggers, photographers and enthusiast making it a most popular event each summer in NYC. I have an established wall at 14th Street and 30th Ave, murals running for the year and updated each June. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtZd_0IasiI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_mAaQeqdAw

City Fresh Market Bushwick, Brooklyn 2017 Summer 2017 I was asked by City Fresh Market to create some artwork on 8 roll gates to liven up the block in this Bushwick neighborhood in Brooklyn, The idea was to bring along friends, each given creative freedom, creating an outdoor gallery of emerging, local street art talent. I reached out to some of my favorites Wizard Skull, Chinon Maria, Turtle Caps, and JCorp and it all came together nicely for my second street art curation. The project has been renewed and is expanding to other markets in the NYC area.

NuHotel Nu Perspectives Downtown Brooklyn, January 2016 I was thrilled to be asked by Nu Hotel to paint a mural in one of their boutique, art-themed rooms. As part of our NU Perspectives Project, the 93-room boutique hotel has given creative license to a variety of artists to liven up the largest guest rooms. The hotel’s white walls and loft-like design serve as a blank canvas on which artists can put their signature creations. “The murals give the rooms color and an edge, while maintaining a comfortable feel and a uniquely Brooklyn look.” https://www.nuhotelbrooklyn.com/nu-perspective-rooms/john-jc-carr/

Cobra Club Bar Bushwick Brooklyn, 2017 I was asked to create a mural at Cobra Club in Bushwick, Brooklyn that would reference Vargas’s Girls with a Candy Skull motif. I added the Cobra, hand lettering and stenciled pattern to create this energetic, collage-style piece that works perfectly in their outdoor area.
