ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

GUEST OF HONOUR Thank you JCI PJ for having me as the guest of honour for the drawing competition. It is my pleasure to be invited as the guest of honour and I am truly humbled to be gracing this event for the children. As we all well know that drawing plays a very important part in many facets of our lives. Cartoons, comics, landscapes, diagrams, charts, floor plans and even writings are all made via drawings. Even our human ancestors drew in caves which establishes the fact that drawing is in our innate skill that has transcended many generations. Therefore it is important to encourage and cultivate the habit of drawing in our children as it is a means to help develop their creativity as well as unlock their imaginative potential. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the participants in this competition all the best and I hope that we all continue to enjoy drawing as it is an experience that we all love and share. Wishing the greatest of success to everyone!

Ernest ERNEST NG 2022 ICDC GUEST OF HONOUR

Organizing Chairperson Warm greetings from the Organizing Committee of the 2022 International Children’s Drawing Contest (ICDC)! Since 2009, JCI Petaling Jaya has organized and received awards and recognition internationally for this ICDC event. This contest won the Best Omoiyari Project in 2010 on Asia Pacific level and was globally recognized as the Best Local Peace Project in 2017. Omoiyari is a Japanese philosophy adopted by JCI in Year 2011. In this event, we have adopted the mission of promoting art and drawing through competition and allowing parents to learn more about the art profession and pathway. We strongly believe that every child has a distinct artistic capability that makes each one of them unique. It inspires us to create something new and see the world from a different perspective. A French famous artist Edgar Degas once said, “art is not what you see, but what you make others see”. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our Deputy Organizing Chairperson, Chew Huay Shan, as well as all our directors and committee members. They are a group of enthusiastic and outstanding volunteers, spending day and night planning and preparing for this event. Most of us are new to the assigned positions, but we are willing to take up the challenge because we have a strong platform to support us, and that is JCI Petaling Jaya! We have our advisors, Past Presidents Lim Hooi Hooi and Yee Teck Ji, who offered quality advice and were always there to support us. Not forgetting our ex-officio, President Henry, who is constantly seeking ways in helping me and the team out. Thank you so so much! Certainly, this event would not have been made possible without the generous support of our kind sponsors! You can rest assured that your contribution is being put to good use. Thank you.

ALONE WE CAN DO SO LITTLE, TOGETHER WE CAN DO SO MUCH!

Careena CAREENA TAN 2022 ICDC ORGANIZING CHAIRPERSON

President It is a pleasure for me to pen a few words in conjunction with our 2022 International Children Drawing Contest, commonly known as ICDC. This project aims to encourage and discover children's interest and talents in painting, and also to let parents understand the future career development of art related work. JCI Petaling Jaya organised its 1st ICDc back in 2009 and it was a closed-door concept. It was a collaboration project with our Sisterhood Chapter, JCI Higashiiruma from Japan, where drawings were short-listed and sent over to Japan to exhibit in Japan. This project also won the Best Omoiyari Project at the JCI Asia Pacific Conference in year 2010. This is our 12th ICDC now and this time our theme is “Underwater World”. Beneath the sea is a mystery yet beautiful world, patiently waiting for us to explore. Hence, the contestants will be able to use their wild imagination to portray, and present to us, their very own underwater world, one which is special and exclusive to them. This year ICDC is very meaningful to me because there are orphans participated and their registration fees were sponsored by generous parents who joined this ICDC too. Thanks to our generous sponsors, they are able to showcase their talents to us. All paintings will be short-listed and thereafter the shortlisted paintings will be sent to Taiwan to be exhibited. Congratulations to our Organizing Chairlady Careena Tan, Deputy Organizing Chairlady Shan Shan and our dedicated committee team for the hard work in marking this ICDC a successful and memorable event. I I’m proud to see our committee’s unity since day one: from the preparation stage until what we are seeing today. Great achievement, and I’m appreciative of all your efforts and supports.

LET’S TOGETHER BRING JCIPJ FROM GOOD TO GREAT!

Henry HENRY NG 2022 PRESIDENT JCI PETALING JAYA
