This project consisted of designing a library in Charleston that would have an impact in the architecture community. Because of how old and historic the city is , a new building was needed to have a different connection with the public and stand out from the old fabric of the town as its own. The library consist of different programatic spaces that make it a multi-purpose building where visitors could go from drinking a coffee to enjoying an amazing light show performance, to read in the last floor with a breathtaking view to the city. One of the main ideas of this project was to bring the public from the inside out and have a connection with the people outside the building. The structure was thought out as certain main spaces and circulation spaces extruding out of the building to create an unique experience.

THEATRE WRAPPER University of Florida 2018 Critic: Peter Sprowls Program: Cultural Installation

The city of Gainesville wants to encourage new development, investment and use in Porters Community and surrounding areas. At the center of this initiative is a new performance intervention associated with the Hippodrome Theatre. The city hopes that this new intervention will reconnect the active downtown businesses and programs to Porters Community and activate existing and potential public space. The Theatre Wrapper’s design was intended to interconnect a classical structure with a contemporary one, giving the space a different atmosphere. This project activates at night, becoming a light show exhibition space. A series of renderings, diagrams, drawings and study models where done in order to understand how the project fitted in the site.

New York city has continued to increase in public density over the last 15 years. In a context were vertical space has primarily delved from a commodity to a sole option, the less endowed have been slowly pushed out of a large majority of urban centers. As a result the availabilty of social services in high finance sectors has diminished and become inaccesible for those remaining. The NYN tower is a series of vertical spaces opposing the New York Flatiron in Madison Square Park. The building contains resources for the local residents and offers a one stop location for general public aid that is often overseen in sectors of heavy vertical density. In addition, it also offers low income apartments for the middle-class, it has office spaces and lastly an exhibition space where local artist can display their work.

To understandand what the tectonics of the proposed idea were, a series of process models were developed. These helped to understand form and shape more clearly. Also, this construct aided to see how program could start to be integrated in the different circulation moments of the tower. The void that the tower started to conceive gave the opportunity to design an unique project that was symmetrical in the grid of New York. In addition, the idea of mirroring the Flatiron, reinforced the concept of the negative intersections between the two buildings. 27

Exploded axonometric study of the urban area surrounding the project. This study was done in order to understand the city blocks around the project’s perimeter, and analyze the infrastructure of this specific sector of New York. Also it helped to generate a study of building typologies that are found in the area ranging from commercial to residential buildings.

The program diagram focuses in indicating the different sectors of the project and what they are being used as. This tower proposal can be classified as mixed-use high rise since it has multiple types of usage by the community.

Street perspective in the corner of Broadway and W. 26th St.

Street perspective in 5th Avenue and W. 25th. As an overall view, the program in the tower ties major needs in the city of New York. It also helps to see the resemblance of what the Flatiron does as a historic building to the surrounding population and what this new building will keep doing in the long run. With this proposal the influx of non-wealthy residents will increase by a substantial amount and the community will be tighter than before. The project location is also very convenient to what the surroundings are, and people are within short walking distances to metro stations, commercial stores and public institutions. NEW YORK, NY

The exploration of materiality was very crucial in the model since the building needed to respond to what the site was about. Render studies were done in order to show the chosen materiality clearer. As a design project the concept for this venture was explored with great depth through analyzing the site to understand what it was there and how it would be beneficial for the design. The idea of using opposing edges in the urban fabric came to be an engaging strategy that not only responded to the context but also connected to the historic layers of Madison Square Park as it referenced the Flatiron as the driver for the conceptual design. Serving as a civic center it portrays the most important elements for the community to be its priority.

Spanning from the principal streets of Bleeker and Houston, the NYU research branch is a reconfiguration and exploration around infixing a mass amount of educational program amidst a primarily residential area. The project has a multiplicity of considerations being that it was to be infixed between two large existing residential spaces. A lower profile in terms of height was chosen in order to maintain the relative scale with the surrounding neighborhoods along the westward portion. The profile was undulated with the main limb rising towards the eastern side. This slope in height was achieved in response towards the more prominent business blocks. Obeserving past iterations of the block in terms of top circulation, a series of diagrams were produced focusing on the primary massings and percieved possible routes of circulation. These would serve as a catalyst for assessing the below grade program.

Speculative drawings where done referencing previous historical paths of circualtion with the current conditions offered in the north block. The main goal was to begin drawing conclusions on circulation through various floor levels by compacting information and looking at patterns amongst the drawings.

A speculative site mapping was done in which exploration in circulation, traffic, possible areas of intervention and population of people where analyzed in order to advanced with the project. Different graphic techniques where used in order to produce this drawing.

ARCHITRAVE 26 LEGACY University of Florida 2019 Architrave Publication Creative Executive Editor Team Members: 29 Architrave is a yearly student run publication that acts as a retrospective for the entirety of the undergraduate program at the University of Florida School of Architecture. Every year around the beginning of the Fall semester, a call for submissions of the student work is put out. Following the deadlines, what occurs is the curation of a body of work that is indicative of the energy of the school for the given period.

Inside Cover Sleeve: Front

As the Creative Executive Editor it was of importance to create a recognizable image that was indicative of the school, regardless of any trend or movement in the field. Previosly, the covers and themes for the publication were not kept cohesive. The only constant in the publication was the font. Each submitted piece of student work was retouched with permission and catalogued into a database for future publication teams. The printing process was overseen and inspected through multiple proofs for total accuracy and final product delivery. Architrave had always been the face of the student body, so it was imperative to feature the face of the school as the publication, literally. The Eastern Facades and the entirety of the school was digitally modeled in order to create the vector graphics for the Front covers, inside sleeves, and inserts. Opaque Mylar and other media were sourced as the inside sleeves of the book. The publication was sectioned into themes relating to the curriculum of the school, garnering properties of each and arrangin work for the corresponding section. The details of the Contributors was collected and assigned index numbers in order to create am Authorship Glossary with Corresponding Studio Details. This allowed for a greater range in freedom for editing space and printing tolerances.
