European Module 13 May 2010 Newcastle University
Brief description of my professional & academic experience – 20 years ago –> graduate in Urban & Regional Planning – Univ. Aveiro (1990) – First two years worked -> municipality of Metropolitan Area of Oporto (Vila do Conde) – After –> created & worked in a consultant planning firm with some colleagues (twelve years) – During this time I did MSc in Urban Planning (1998) in Oporto University, and I had some responsibilities in the coordination of the Portuguese Spatial Planning Association (1996-1999); – Six years ago I had the opportunity to come back to my University – as lecture and researcher -> one of the reasons was my disenchantment with spatial planning practice -> the need to find new ways / “reinvent” planning – These five stories that I will share with you have some of the ingredients -> “reinvention” of planning -> linking theory to practice -> linking spatial to strategic planning
