Profiles of Faith
Battle Ground United Methodist Church seeks to inspire, serve our families, community and world through love and faith in Jesus Christ. In the year 1857 Bishop E.R. Ames and Presiding Elder Benjamin Winans of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and others, conceived the idea of founding a town and an institution of higher learning near the battlefield in Tippecanoe County. At the Annual Conference of the Northwest Indiana Conference convening October 1, 1857, and presided over by Bishop Waugh, the project of platting a new town having moral and spiritual integrity, building a “college”, and the building of a new church was approved. Battle Ground United Methodist Church has a food pantry outreach to the community that is available by appointment only and also has a fully stocked coffee house called “He-brews” that serves coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate and features “Mary Lou” donut holes and is open between services every Sunday. The most recent addition has been the second service and it focuses on

“A New Beginning” at Bethel Christian Life Center Since 1984, Bethel Christian Life Center has been reaching the heart of the community. “As a spirit-filled church, it is our desire to exalt the Lord Jesus, expand his kingdom, and equip believers for a life of meaning and ministry,” said Pastor Ted Brust. Bethel Christian Life Center reaches out locally, nationally, and internationally. The church serves the community in many ways, including: childcare, a food pantry, Sunday School classes for all ages, Children’s Ministries (led by Pastor Zack and Liz Rainey), Brightside Student Ministry (led by Pastor Isaacand Becky Deere) and a new Outreach Ministry has been launched (led by Pastor Jim and Robin Walsh.) Bimonthly small group meetings are held in area homes.
Bethel has a partnership with Chi Alpha, a student organization at Purdue. Bethel also sponsors 50 missionaries and more than 70 underprivileged children worldwide. A new location is scheduled to open in December, 2011, because of the necessity to move due to the new US Highway 231 extension. The new facility will allow the church to grow its ministries and expand its community outreach opportunities. We launched a stewardship campaign in January to raise funds for our new facility. We called this campaign “A New Beginning” because we believe God is leading us on a new spiritual journey. We broke ground this Spring for our new facility which be located about a mile south of our current location on McCormick
Road. The new site will put us at the intersection of US 231 and the new Cumberland Avenue extension. The new structure is currently under roof and will soon be enclosed and ready for interior completion. This new location will provide opportunities to grow our ministries and expand our outreach to the community. In January, a team of 23 will go to the Dominican Republic to help with a construction project at a local church. Our annual outreach events for children include the Easter Eggstravaganza, MEGA Sports Camp, and Fall Harvest Party. Other outreaches include various concerts, Midnight Coast New Year’s Party, Superbowl Party, Fourth of July Picnic, Easter and Christmas presentations, Thanksgiving Blessing Baskets, and Christmas
gifts for families in need. Our church facility has been used for various community events such as wellness seminars, blood drives, hospice memorial services, vote center, Girl Scout cookie distribution center, Child Development Classes, and a meeting place for various businesses. “Bethel is a church about people where friends are made, families are raised, and God is praised,” said Pastor Brust. “If you’re looking for a place in which to belong and be equipped for the service of the Lord, you will find what you need at Bethel.” Bethel Christian Life Center 2541 US Highway 52 West West Lafayette, IN 47906 Phone: 765-463-0956 E-mail: praise@bethel-life.org Web: www.bethel-life.org

A Church Alive is Worth the Drive Church Alive is a nondenominational fellowship proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. The fellowship values simplicity in its meetings, emphasizing a vibrant worship that encourages a deeper intimacy with God. Sunday morning worship is at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with messages that are informally pragmatic and relevant to daily living. In addition, classes are held on Wednesday evenings, including Fifth Element youth group services, which provide radical worship and dynamic, Biblically based messages for middle and high school students. Church Alive invites people to “come as you are,” and offers the opportunity to enjoy coffee, cappuccino or espresso while fellowshipping before services. This casual approach encourages freshness and innovation without compromising the truth of God’s Word. At Church Alive, a high
priority is placed upon obedience to the Holy Spirit, believing such a climate is conducive to personal, relational and spiritual growth. “Our heart is to love and serve others as Jesus did, and to be worshippers whom the heart of God is seeking; a people who worship ‘in Spirit and in truth,’” said senior pastor Owen Mason. Church Alive Worship Center began in the spring of 2000, with services being held in Pastor Owens’ home. In 2001, the church purchased a 12,000square-foot facility in Lafayette, its current home. The desire of the church is to provide ministry for all ages in a family friendly atmosphere. Because of its growth, Church Alive is anticipating multiple services. To that end, the church purchased 30 acres in southwest Lafayette. “To the glory of God, the 30 acres are completely paid for, enabling the church to operate debt-free,”

said Pastor Mason. Plans to construct a new home for the Church Alive Worship Center will begin when the need for expansion supersedes the ability to use the present facilities to their maximum capacity. Faith Baptist Church is a vibrant ministry family dedicated to Jesus Christ and our community
“Our church is a family of followers of Jesus Christ who desire to glorify God in our lives and in our community. That’s the simple bottom line!” said Faith Baptist senior pastor Steve Viars. For more than four decades, Faith Baptist Church has been glorifying God by winning people to Jesus Christ and equipping them to be more faithful disciples. Faith Baptist has a genuine heart for the Greater Lafayette community. “We believe a church should be a community resource,” said pastor Viars. “We believe God is honored as we extend a hand of compassion to those around us. Our worship services are designed to be vibrant expressions
of our love for God. Through music, prayer, and the study of His Word, we strive to praise and honor God while ministering to the spiritual concerns of His people. Our Adult Bible Fellowships (ABFs) meet during each Sunday morning worship service. ABFs provide men and women with the opportunity to build meaningful friendships while digging deeper into God’s Word. At Faith, we love kids! During each of our Sunday morning worship services, we offer several ministries, for newborns thru 5th graders, that are designed to help them experience the excitement of knowing God and living for Him! Our student ministries are designed to train teenagers to live according to the truth of God’s Word. Our team of leaders offers classes for 6th – 12th graders during our 9:30 and 11:00 worship services and encourages teens to Know Jesus. Love Jesus. Live Jesus. Through the context of meaningful relationships, our goal is to help students establish a biblical worldview that will help them live out a Christ-pleasing and fulfilling life. The college ministry meets for fellowship and Bible study each Sunday morning at 11 a.m. On Friday evenings, students gather near the Purdue University campus for Purdue Bible Fellowship (PBF). Throughout the week, there are many opportunities for students to get involved in Bible studies, activities, discipleship, and service. Holy Trinity: A welcoming community of faith
The history of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lafayette dates back to its formal organization in January 1899 and its location on South 9th Street. Property was purchased in 1962 and the cornerstone was laid for a new building at its current location on North 21st Street. A tracker pipe organ and education wing were added and completed in 1988, and future plans include a building renovation project. Built on a rich tradition of worship, Christian education, evangelical outreach and stewardship, the church is hospitality driven and welcoming. Holy Trinity’s other strengths are many, including a desire to grow, strong music program and faithful, capable leaders.
Inviting people to faith in Jesus Christ and equipping them to live and serve in his name, Holy Trinity seeks to be a Christcentered, evangelism-focused, welcoming community of faith. “Our guiding principles include grace-oriented, scripture-based, spirit-led, missionfocused, prayer-guided, familystrengthening, stewardship encouraging and grounded in worship, praise and thanksgiving,” said Reverend Dr. David M. Doane.

Unitarian Universalist Church welcomes all Two Cities Church serves Lafayette, West Lafayette
In 2006, a small group of families began meeting to pray about starting a new church that would be faithful to the scriptures and the mission that Jesus has given to his church. Those prayer meetings created what is known today as Two Cities Church. The church’s name was chosen to reflect the members’ desire to be a church that serves both Lafayette and West Lafayette. In 2008, Indiana native Adam Brice was called to be the pastor. Worship services began at the YWCA in Lafayette in 2009. Since its beginning, the church has grown. Presently there are
between 50 and 75 people of all ages in attendance on Sunday mornings. “Our mission statement is ‘to worship God and bear witness to Jesus Christ through our life together and our life in the world,’” said Pastor Brice. The church is looking to partner with others in the community who are engaged in various forms of service.
