KCCC M ISSI o N S TATEMENT

As President of the Board of Directors, I would like to officially welcome you to the 44th season of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge.

Through your continued support, Kansas City Corporate Challenge has become the largest and oldest corporate games in the country. Since the beginning of our initial season in 1980, hundreds of companies across the Kansas City region have come together year after year to promote wellness and build connection within the workplace.

My involvement with KCCC began in 2011 as a participant before moving into roles as a Company Coordinator, Ambassador and finally joining the Board of Directors five years ago. Serving as Company Coordinator provided me an opportunity to connect with many individuals within my company and across the region. I have witnessed over the years the level of commitment and hard work that the Company Coordinators and their coworkers put into the games. observing the level of support, encouragement, and camaraderie built throughout the games as tens of thousands of Kansas Citians come out together each year in friendly competition has been an incredible experience to witness. Thank you to our Company Coordinators for the support and encouragement you provide to our participants.

Thank you to our presenting sponsor, PNC Bank, and to each of the companies who have signed on to sponsor in 2023. Your sponsorship allows it to be possible for us to provide the highest quality support to our participants and companies that take part in Kansas City Corporate Challenge. The full list of sponsors can be found on the inside of the front cover of this games magazine. Sponsors will also be highlighted at various events throughout the season. our sponsors allow us to continue to present the games successfully and we are thankful for their continued support.

Thank you to our KCCC Ambassadors for the countless things they do each season. Each year, the Ambassadors become the eyes and ears of the Board out on the field and are invaluable throughout the season. They work tirelessly with the Board at events to ensure the games run smoothly for our participants. onsite at every single of our events, the Ambassadors provide valuable assistance with set up, tear down, and everything in between. We are grateful for an amazing Ambassador team at our side.

The company volunteers help to make each event possible and are more important than ever throughout the games. Throughout the season, we count on our volunteers for support to run water stations, provide course support, hold timing blocks, cheer on participants and much more. A huge thank you to each of the company volunteers.

Kansas City Corporate Challenge is proud to continue our partnership with our charity of choice, Cornerstones of Care, as our beneficiary for the 2023 season. A part of each entry fee is donated to Cornerstones of Care and directly benefits their Build Trybe Program. This program centers around mentorship to help build health, independence, and empowerment skills among youth right here in our Kansas City region’s community. It is amazing to witness the great work of this organization and we are happy to partner with them this season.

our Board of Directors are one of a kind and I have been lucky to witness and work alongside some of the most committed individuals to the games. Their dedication to its continued success is unmatched; working endlessly to create, plan and implement the safest and most successful version of events possible. The Board gives countless hours of volunteerism to ensure the best participant experience. I am truly thankful and grateful to work alongside these individuals to maintain the games being the oldest and largest in the country.

on behalf of the KCCC Executive Director, administrative staff, Johnson County Park and Recreation District, and the 2023 Board of Directors and Ambassadors, thank you for your dedication to the games and continued involvement in Kansas City Corporate Challenge. We look forward to seeing you at events as we test our limits and reach new heights together.

Dear Corporate Challenge Friends,

Cornerstones of Care is honored and excited to be part of the k ansas City Corporate Challenge!

We are thrilled that we are the beneficiary again of this great event that promotes health, wellness and camaraderie.

Cornerstones of Care’s mission is to partner for safe, healthy communities. The money raised during the kansas City Corporate Challenge will benefit our Build Trybe Program. This program is a mentorship community that builds health, independence and empowers youth with employable skills. It is a bridge connecting youth, who lack a stable support system, to opportunity. our team of trade experts and community partners introduce and connect youth to three skill-based career paths and education in the culinary arts, construction trades, and horticulture.

We encourage you to visit our website www.cornerstonesofcare.org, Build Trybe’s website at www.Buildtrybe.com, or check out Build Trybe on Instagram @buildtrybe. We would love to show off the great work that our youth perform every day. Please email me to schedule a tour of one of our campuses.

Thanks for allowing us to be part of your community!

Sincerely,

If you STAY READY, you don’t

to GET READY!

2022 fall series

The Fall Series is open to all KC metro companies regardless of participation in the 2023 KCCC. It’s a great way for associates, friends, and family to engage in some friendly and healthy competition.

If your team were to fill each permitted slot of every event, over 60 participants can join in the fun! If your company has more than 60 interested participants, you are welcome to register another team and can still compete on behalf of your company –there is no limit to the number of teams your company can register.

This event WILL SELL OUT at 30 companies (minimum 20) and divisions will be established at random, not based on company size. Teams will have the opportunity to compete with companies they’d otherwise not face during the regular KCCC season. Extraordinary matchups and fierce competition will ensue!

Placements of gold, silver, or bronze will be awarded to the top three finishers within each division at every event with the exception of the 5K. Placements for the 5K will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the following age groups, by gender:

19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

the Alex GeorGe

among those involved each year in the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. The award is named for the late Alex George, founder of the Kansas City Corporate Challenge. It represents the values he demonstrated in his various sports activities, namely a competitive spirit, a selfless dedication to amateur athletics, lifetime physical fitness and good sportsmanship. Below are excerpts from the winning recipients’ nomination letters.

Kellie Rusher NAIC/NIPR

Kellie Rusher has been a huge part of her team’s participation in corporate challenge since their very first year in the Games. She has assisted Event Coordinators with recruiting, organizing practices and tryouts, navigating Challenge Manager, and understanding the KCCC point system. Additionally, Kellie created a presentation that is utilized each year at the company’s Event Coordinators meeting. If she is not participating, she is out supporting events and encouraging ALL participants, not just those from her company. Kellie is an advocate for sportsmanship and consistently leads by example. It’s not uncommon for Kellie to fill in at events when needed – even events she’s never played.

Stephen Woods Swiss Re

Stephen is a fixture of Kansas City Corporate Challenge at his company. For over two decades, he has coordinated countless events, served on internal KCCC planning committees, and offered his participation and support in virtually any event when needed. As an example, despite having had little time to train, Stephen gutted through a challenging half marathon before then racing over to okun Fieldhouse to participate on his company’s volleyball team. What makes Stephen truly deserving of the award is his relentlessly positive energy. He is one of the few people that will always stick around and cheer on his coworkers after he has finished his individual event. You will never hear Stephen make a negative or disparaging remark about his teammates or competitors.

Rebecca Earp Spirit Award

The Rebecca Earp Spirit Award is given to companies that show incredible passion and support for its athletes while also displaying excellent sportsmanship and class toward other competitors. This competition has been a KCCC staple for many years. With the return to play in 2021, post-pandemic, we were unable to encourage large crowds and spectators so the Spirit Competition took its place on the bench, until we could safely facilitate the contest.

Rebecca Earp embodies all that this award represents. Throughout her many years of involvement with KCCC – whether as a Company Coordinator, participant, volunteer, or Board Member – Rebecca IS KCCC spirit. You’ve seen her behind the lens at every event capturing your most amazing moments. She’s behind the scenes of our social media spotlighting your unbelievable accomplishments. She’s manning the DJ booth and cheering you on as you cross the finish line. Because of all this, and more, we are so thrilled to establish that from this point forward, this special recognition will be known as the Rebecca Earp Spirt Award.
