As president of American Jewish World Service since 1998, Ruth Messinger has built a strong international organization which is rooted in the teachings of Judaism and is devoted to the realization of human rights and ending poverty in the developing world. She has been a decade-long presence in the The Jewish Daily Forward’s "Forward 50" -- a list of fifty Jewish-Americans "who have made a significant impact on the Jewish story in the past year." She has received honorary degrees from four major rabbinical seminaries and is a highly popular speaker.
