Upcycling Socialism Un collectivisme individualiste.

Working with wood Misappropriation : extension of use in time. The Bigbag, more than a shoppingbag, stays, so the plants grow in. No time to move it, now it is settle for a time, never forever. An architecture made of stress and tensions.

Mobil architecture = Ephemeral landscape

Tomorrow’s mobil-home, a snail shell Can the city move ?

Collective of reflexion and action in space. L’ Atelier Volant (The Flying workshop) We are young professionals, architects, landscapers. We arise of the ensapl (school of architecture and landscape architecture of Lille). We evolved four years in a rich and moving frame with students, researchers, professors, designers, engineers. « Thoughful marginality ». In our recently professional lives, we attenpt to keep this open mind. Porous but carefull with the surrounding world. We are a plurality, our professional practices are multiple. Somes work in architecture or landscape offices, they design living spaces, compose landscapes. Others evolve in administrations, they are within the urban strategies, implementations, a thought of the city and its whole complexity. Others are researchers, feed nowaday’s questions and problematics incomming. There’s also somes that don’t want to sit. They keep walking, and travelling. Always hungry, they need to use their hands, to stroke matter like we love a being. Nowaday pratice of project is often driving designers away from the « to do ». Nevertheless, it appear us essential in our professions to keep a contact with materials, with the living, with the matter. We need to engage entirely our bodies in the time of conception and creation. We created L’Atelier Volant to give a structure to that need. We are engaged in professions that need each other. These are team jobs, these are meetings and sharing know-how. We need to build from now the projects that gather us in order to keep the wealth of the collective knowledge. Three allusions to our actions, are an ethic of the architect and the landscaper : engage our bodies, building a collective

Manipulate layers to built volume

We join spokes together in a wheel, but it is the center hole that makes the wagon move. We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want. We hammer wood for a house, but it is the inner space that makes it livable. We work with being, but non-being is what we use. Lao Tzu, Tao Te King

Changing dimension, 2 to 3 is a construction of vaccum.

Domes

Workshop and do-il-yourself, 2012

During workshops and by my own, I studied different types of domes. I’ve been part of the construction of a geodesic dome, frequency three, 10m wide on 5m high. Fascinated by those hypnotic volumes, I was looking for the source of that particular feeling of structural perfection. My interest for geodesic domes rises from a wider interest for light structures. Currently, my wish as an architect is to walk that way, to find alternatives to the usual column-beam concrete system, to explore the wood construction, earth construction, without waste, the re-use, the selfconstruction, the solar architecture... Tomorrow’s mobil-home Design tomorrow’s mobil-home and its support structure. Competition Bénéteau 2012

The mobil-home is, in essence, reproducible and movable. So we recycle container, symbols of journey and economy How to think an architecture reproducible and adaptable ? How to imagine a residencial parc for leisure, specific and local, with standardized elements ? — Specificities ensured by the Eco-resort We think : The architecture for holydays should not leave any marks. It has to be highly adapted and complied with the site. So we propose a structure, dependent on the surroundings, hosting home units dependent on the structure. By the interdependence the relation with the site can be conformed, and adapted. It’s develop on the border of the woods, taking profit of its environment as well as respecting it. Slim footbridges, tracks and columns are waving between the tree trunks. It respects the position of the trees and opens the views on the lake.

The system is like a poetic extension of the forest structure. By the winter, when thereis no holidaymaker, a floating skeleton, empty, disappear in the grove. During the summer, the home units fit in the web, like life signs, leaving minimal marks, no lasting inprint. The containers are in the structure nonautonomous modular units. They compose the shared organs of the structure : collective space (reception, restaurant), technical space (waste treatment, clean energy production), fun space (swimming pool, kids playground) and, of course, housing. The core of the house is the container. From this core come out the bedrooms and the service equipments. (kitchen, toilets and bathroom). Alexis Deconinck, Joseph Descamps, Florence Plihon.

The garden of the electric workshop

“ Fête des jardins rêvés ” (Dreamt gardens festival). At “ l’Union ”, Roubaix, 2013. In progress, opening the 1th of june.

The large scale urban project like “l’Union” are taking time. The wide spaces already in transformation are troubling the neighborhood. The dreamt gardens festival able to imagine the futur nodes of the project by a festive and shared occupation. It offer daily and all along the construction new spaces of conviviality. We invit imagination in the garden to fertilize the current and futur places. This dreamt garden is first a bubble with view on the construction of l’Union, on the town in progress. Independant and in dialog. l’espace furieux (Mathilde Sauvillers, Juliette Duchange), un collectif d’ouvriers réfléchissant (Sylvain Daval , Stéphane Thonnard, Sarah Foulquier) et Sarah Mogosan, Perrine Grivaux, Brodie, Kevin Fernandez et Alexis Deconinck.

LANDING, mobile gardens. Simplicity and reliabiblity to serve a nomad aesthetic.

A mobil garden, is it a moving garden ? A garden in action ? The Water Pavilion spread himself depending of the site we offer him. It borrows to nomad architecture a great capacity of adaptation and a well running logistic : simple materials, serial, raw, serving an efficacity and a logix of implementation. This seeming simplicity able to respect and understand the site and to optimise the ressources. Once settle, it creates the event. Just like the big tops that liven up a village place. The Water Pavilion is temporary garden, foldable, deliver in kits with an instruction of assembly theorical but adaptable. It may travel, fill place after its passage and take with in moments, technics, fed by its own movement.

Can the city become a place of production and a fertile geography ? Since too long, it ignores that its potential of tank. In an era of ecological transition for the city, The Water Pavilion is a punctual and experimental intervention and a new form of nature in town. Thanks to its plug, it short-circuit rain water destinated to the sewers. By this only gesture, it reveal a free ressource, ignore until know to prefere a paying on that besome rare. This new form of self-sufficient nature find in the town, its, buildings and its networks the perfect environment for to develop itself. Upcycling socialism. Competition Tallinn Architeture Biennal 2013.

Väike Osmae’s inheritage is a wide open space resulting from a collectivist organisation and ideology. The pursuit of common good has reduced space to its most simple expression: an empty space, which prevents people from appropriating it. Despite it being «everybody’s» space, it is today a «no man’s land». However, this may be Vaïke Osmae’s biggest opportunity. It could become «everybody’s land». Väike Osmae is well connected and takes full benefit already of its proximity from the city’s old center town, nature surroundings such as the Baltic sea, lakes, woodlands and grasslands, Tallinn’s zoo, the hospital. By reconsidering its inner space, Väike Osmae will become an experimentation of a new public domain. This domain based on collectivist values such as shared spaces and caring for common good, allows the citizen-inhabitant with his or hers individual wills to be a part of the city-fabric’s process. From Top down to Bottom up: This wide open and therefore available space is given back to the citizen-inhabitants by a democratic process. This includes outoor and indoor spaces, no longer considered

as disconnected. This new bottom up sustainable way of living takes place in hyper-connected buildings. Informations, decisions, know-hows, energy are shared by the community in the «agora» which is a tangible and virtual shared space. The «agora» is permitted by an informatic programm using a social network and land registery (indoor and outdoor).Through the «agora», the linked citizen-inhabitants can exchange then decide together about their shared space according to each one’s will : Väike Osmae’s common good is now defined by indivual initiatives which offers an evoluting living environnement modulated by its citizen-inhabitants. Curved panels and wood working joints Pavilion. Stage de master, laboratoire ibois, EPFLausanne. 2012.

Like the brother relation between a brix and an arch, each material has its own behavior, making of it the answer to a stress. From the cell structure proceed a way to use a material, its implementation, its behavior in time and depending of the climat. In spite of my interest for the sector design to production, I admire a lot the great craftmen and their spiritual relationship with the matter. This intuition they grow for tradition to place the right amonut of matter in the right place. In the laboratory, the game is different. We are looking for a deep understanding of the matter, to the cell. The time of survey is flowing along repetitions, trials, because we walk on unknown lands, virgin field. Research on complex geometry is a pursuit to find create performances with the materials. From biomimetic emerged intelligent structures, reactives. Alexis Deconinck.
