FEM-Design
FEM-Design
FEM-Design is an advanced modelling software for finite element analysis and design of loadbearing concrete, steel and timber structures. The quick and easy nature of FEM-Design makes it ideal for all types of construction tasks from single element design to global stability analysis of large structures.
StruSoft (Structural Design Software in Europe AB)
is an innovative Swedish software company with more than 25 years of experience in specialized software applications for the building industry.
The structural model is created easily in 3D with intuitive CAD-tools or imported from popular BIM-software. Loads can be applied using the wind and snow load generator and load cases for the most unfavourable combinations of loads are created automatically.
FEM-Design An advanced modelling software for FE-analysis and design of load-bearing concrete, steel and timber structures.
The finite element mesh is generated and optimised automatically. Design checks are carried out according to desired code. The Auto Design feature helps users choose the most efficient cross-section and reinforcement. Results are shown in a variety of 3D-graphs, contour lines, colour palettes or sections. Quality reports can be created from within the built-in FEM-Design documentation editor.

analyse
Whether doing a quick design check of a single frame or a complete global stability analysis of a complex structure, FEM-Design has the tools to quickly get started.
Structural loads include point, line, surface, temperature, support motion and stress loads. Wind and snow loads can be generated automatically according to building location and code.
The user-friendly working environment has familiar CAD tools such as axis and storey-system, region operation, user-defined views and user coordinate-systems for easy model creation and editing.
Automatic loading combinations combine permanent, variable and accidental loads to the most unfavourable situation.
Hardware accelerated graphics allow for fast model rendering, animated results and powerful 2D and 3D graphical representation of input geometry and results. Relative constraints allow connections between structural objects to be modelled accurately. For even faster modelling, the built-in structure wizard automates the creation of slab and frame systems.
FEM-Design applications
design Design of steel, concrete and timber members are carried out according to Eurocode with national annexes. The Autodesign function automatically chooses the most optimal section according to a predefined set of desired section types. Steel design includes automatic utilisation checks for stresses, flexural buckling, lateral torsional buckling and web and flange buckling. Steel bars can be converted to shell elements, allowing varying cross-sections, cut-outs and stiffeners, and checked for buckling shapes and utilisation for flexural-, torsional-, lateral torsional- and local buckling.
The finite element mesh is automatically generated with optimal element sizes and automatic refinements at supports and element connections, freeing the user to focus on the engineering task. There is no limit to the number of elements. Manual refining is possible through the provided meshing tools. Analysis results include static, dynamic (eigen frequencies), stability and seismic analysis. Load cases can be converted to masses for dynamic calculations automatically. Singularity problems above supports are automatically solved.
Complete Structures
Frames and Trusses
Complete structural analysis and design of complex structures containing a combination of materials and element types, including shell elements, slabs, walls, bars, beams and columns with arbitrary loads. Static-, dynamic- and seismic analysis can be performed as well as solving global stability problems. Buckling phenomena and concrete cracking is accounted for.
Three-dimensional frame and truss structures are easily modelled, analysed and designed i FEM-Design. Common structures can be generated along with loads in a few simple steps using the parametric input wizard. The section editor allows complex arbitrary section shapes (opened or closed) to be created for bars, beams and columns.
For concrete, required reinforcement is automatically applied to areas from a list of available diameters and spacings. Reinforcement can be checked against deflection and crack-width criteria. Applied reinforcement in the concrete elements is checked according to code, and accurate crack-width with deflection calculations.
A number of display methods can be used for viewing results including graphs, contour lines, colour palettes, or as arbitrarily placed sections. Intelligent grouping choices simplify linear results into more legible, discrete steps.
Timber design includes automatic utilization checks for stresses, flexural buckling and lateral torsional buckling for wood and glulam sections.

import
document
Save time and eliminate double work by importing structural model geometry and support conditions.
FEM-Design offers an easy and elegant way to create complete and structured documentation of projects.
Complete 3D architectural or structural models can be imported to FEM-Design in a variety of ways. Either through the open format IFC or from the direct links provided from the most common BIM-modelling applications.
The active model views and tables are easily set up to display desired result, display mode, scales and text size and are automatically refreshed when changes have been made to the model or calculation.

Walls
Plates
FEM-Design offers design solutions for plane stress problems, such as shear and load bearing walls as well as for other kinds of structural elements such as webs of deep beams or steel plates.
Concrete slabs or other two-dimensional transversely loaded structures can be analysed. Reinforced concrete is designed according to code, accounting for cracked section analysis, shrinkage and creep considering applied reinforcement. Required reinforcement is calculated for ultimate limit state, and applied reinforcement can be used for checking deflections and/or crack width.
