Illustrative Site Plan

Return to the River

Performing as the edge condition of the overall Sports Arena + River Estuary Mission Valley plan, the Sports Arena area lacks the opportunities the site currently presents to the greater plan of San Diego. By highlighting the river as the primary landscape element in the area, the new plan generates a fold within the urban framework, which creates an integrated sense of community. This community is invented out of fragmented streets to create an organized grid similar to downtown with a crescendo of building heights from the river to the greater Point Loma area; allowing the river to become not only the horizontal, but vertical hierarchy throughout the adjacent landscape. A combination of light industry, commercial, residential, office, retail, hotel, restaurant, and parking have been generated to create a dense variety of in-filled areas where underutilized spaces reside. These spaces encourage a rebirth of new urban life along the river for future generations.

Roof System Basic parapet wall with access points to the roof. The buildigns energy derives from the same power source as the library, M.T.S. and Petco Park, located near the southwest side of the parking structure of M.T.S. However, various parts of the roof could support solar panels for future developent and design.

Bridge Structure Bridge operates on a roller connection for seismic reasons. Therefore, each building has its own lateral seismic support and the bridge will be to shift freely without either building influencing the integrity safety of the structure.

Interdisciplinary Departments + key Clinical + Human Sciences Facilities Technology + Physical Research Facilities General Facilities Circulation

Vehicular Planning Underground parking for employees + two levels of above ground parking for visitors. Solar panel coverings: a large amount of universities install these and generate over 50% of their energ. This could also power adjacent buildings as well.

UCSD and SDSU both have graduate and post-doctoral East Village, San Diego, CA programs that focus on this specific psychology and bioengineering. Biomechanics or Biomechatronics combine the scientific discipline and neurological and biological engineering into the technological design of bionic medical device design. Providing spaces to help PTSD and disabled Veterans through Medical School outreach and studies with the innovative designs of advanced prosthetics.

Integrated Roof System This steel tube ribbed system interweaves with each separate building. The roof that is completely covered is composed of lightweight concrete, steel tube members and cross-sectional members and glazing.

Interior Second Level Circulation The bridge reinforces the interconnection between spaces allowing the users to view and interact with each other from different levels and areas of the building. Where the entrances to each room below are, the second level entrances intersect with the voids between the lower level.

Family Oriented Education + Information Areas Places that allow families to educate themselves on the basic wellness of the body and mind.

Public + Active Areas Places that allow families to interact with each other and other community members. These spaces are on the ground floor to incorporate and interconnect everyone in a easy manner.

These spaces are on the second floor to seclude the mind and to allow those families who want to interact on a more private level away from the high activity areas.

Wellness Center

Principles of a curvilinear nature. The movement within the central Liberty Station, Point Loma, San Diego part of the building becomes an extension of the existing circulation in the Liberty Station park to the Bay extension. The intertwining building materials create spaces to stimulate and suggest more engaging environments to the surrounding community to be more physically and mentally active in daily routines.

T

he initial idea for the museum was to create spaces that allowed the user to experience specific moments in time throughout the Industrial Revolution.

The exhibits are to serve as a reminder of how society developed through an industrial and technological progression and how architecture of the future could be influenced from the past. Materiality allows the user to sense the moment.

erennial Pavilion highlights and honors the history enveloped from the trees, by encasing a seed of each species of tree in an acrylic bore at eye level between two aluminum poles. The wall displays different facts about Balboa Park engraved onto the concrete. Each fact commemorates a moment in history over the past one hundred years to preserve and present history in a new way for San Diegans to continue to share with future generations.
