Grande Cache Coal manages effectively capital equipment with Dynaway EAM COMPANY DESCRIPTION
The Alberta-based coal mining company, Grande Cache Coal, operates both surface and underground mining operations, producing premium, low volatile, metallurgical coking coal for export to the world steel industry.
However, the Customer was not happy with their existing Dynamics AX implementation partner, so they decided to select a new partner to assist with the EAM implementation, requiring a team that could complete the implementation with minimal guidance from the Customer. The Customer was also not happy with the support of their AxMRO product, so asked for Avanade’s assistance in selecting an alternative EAMSolution.

CUSTOMER CHALLENGE
In preparation for taking over the management of currently outsourced aboveground operations at their mine, the Customer needed to implement an EAM system in order to effectively manage capital equipment.
Working with the Customer’s project manager, Avanade determined that upgrading the existing Axapta 3.0 installation to Dynamics AX 4.0 prior to implementing Dynaway EAM would provide the best platform for future growth. Avanade was engaged directly to assist with the upgrade to Dynamics AX 4.0. Although the upgrade to 4.0 from 3.0 is fairly standard, the challenge was to port the custom modifications made in 3.0 to 4.0. Avanade also re-installed, with modifications, a third party software (ReqLogic) within the 4.0 environment. Avanade worked with the Customer to select the Dynaway EAM solution to replace iSoft’s AxMRO solution.
Currently, maintenance schedules were mostly managed on a whiteboard or in a spreadsheet, and it was not uncommon for a piece of equipment (e.g. a conveyor belt) to run until failure which decreases plant output. The Customer had already selected AxMRO, a MRO solution from Microsoft ISV iSoft, a small, South African ISV. The MRO solution is designed to put a formal structure around the maintenance of critical equipment, schedules maintenance based on manufacturer’s and client’s best practices, and track work in progress.
