Technology in Schools
Technology has become an indispensable part our daily lives. It has managed to make inroads into our homes and work areas. It greatly influences the social, cultural and economic structure of the society. Today, living without technology is unfathomable in every walk of life.
From mobile phones to I phones, from laptops to tablet PCs, from air travel to space travel; technology has managed to affect every aspect of our day to day lives. The food we eat today can be genetically modified through technology, many diseases can now be successfully treated through better medical aids, the amount of time we take to travel from one part of the globe to another takes a few hours are just a few examples of technology ruling our lives and making the quality of our lives better than before. Technology has shrunk the world into a global village.
The present generation is lucky to witness a great era of change in our lifestyle and comfort as compared to their parents and grandparents. It is thus imperative that education sector should also include the latest technology in their daily curriculum. The embracing of technology in schools would aid the process of learning as well as make technological reforms a part of the students’ curriculum from the very beginning of their formal educational years.
The productivity of a nation depends on the productivity of its young generation. This can be enhanced by incorporating the latest technology in schools into their study modules at a young age. Children learn and adapt to technological innovations very fast. If they are exposed to technology at an elementary level, they are more likely to turn into technological experts when they grow up. If the children are well acquainted
with basic level of technology at a young age, they learn things at an accelerated rate at a later stage.
Studies have revealed that children who are well versed in using technological devices like computers etc. are better at reading and writing as compared to their counterparts who are not exposed to such technology. Children can explore different websites and find multiple solutions to their problems and queries. Internet gives them access to unlimited data on education related information as well as facts and figures. Use of slide shows, various images and film clippings gives the young learners a great boost to their learning. Online tutorials are another form of using technology in schools or at home to the advantage of the students. It also aids tremendously in bridging the educational divide between the students from the rural and urban areas. Infact, through technology education can be made accessible to any student at any age across the globe.
Use of technology also gives teachers an avenue to study their subjects or topics of teaching in detail and prepare their lessons well. It also helps them in maintaining their class records like attendance records, grades obtained by students, payments etc. on PCs, thereby minimising the paper work. It thus simplifies their tasks at work.
