Potential Hazards- Hurricane Recovery A. Roof Inspection, Laying Tarps, and Repairs 1. Falls from heights (use fall protection/qualified personnel, structural damage) 2. Improper ladder or scaffold use (stable surfaces, power lines) 3. Contact with downed lines and live electrical equipment (lines contacting other objects, notify NAVFAC) 4. General heavy equipment operation (operators trained) 5. Power and hand tool use (condition/grounded, wet surfaces) 6. Impact hazard from nails/flying objects (eye/ face shields) 7. Noise (chain saws, generators) 8. Slips, trips, and falls (tarps- damp, power tools, generator cords) 9. Manual material handling (lifting tarps and material) 10. Chemical and material storage and use (compatibility, containers, gas cylinders, smoking, fire extinguishers, PPE) 11. Generator use (not into electrical system, overload, CO, ventilation, PPE) 12. Discovery of unknown chemicals (leaking, sparks, down-wind, PPE) 13. Other potential hazards (weather conditions, cuts, heat stress, animal/insect bites, sprains/strains) B. Building Demolition 1. Structural instabilities (shore/brace walls and/or floor, repair from top floor down) 2. Unsecured hazards in the work area (overhead falling objects, secure utility lines/pipes/tanks/equipment with chemicals, safe walkways) 3. Dropping construction debris (properly installed chutes, safe debris dropping areas) points) 4. Improper ladder or scaffold use (stable surfaces, power lines) 5. General heavy equipment operations (operators trained) 6. Work zone safety (proper PPE, traffic control) 7. Falls from heights or through openings (use fall protection/qualified personnel, structural damage) 8. Contact with live electrical equipment and other utilities (lines contacting other objects) 9. Power and hand tool use (condition/grounded, wet surfaces) 10. Generator use (not into electrical system, overload, CO, ventilation, PPE) 11. Silica, mold, nuisance dust, dried mud, or silt (stay upwind from dust generators, PPE, employee monitoring) 12. Asbestos (check NAVFAC records, qualified workers, keep wet, notify Environmental)
