On Friday, July 13 , the Navy College Office JEB Little Creek-Fort Story along with our on-base colleges, Saint Leo University, Tidewater Community College, Old Dominion University, Troy University, American Military University, Coastline Community College, ECPI University, Empire State College, Thomas Edition State College, Vincennes University, and University of Maryland University College sponsored our first annual Military Education Appreciation Day. Over 600 active duty, veterans, family members, civilians and other base personnel were treated with free food, games, dancing and give-a-ways. The event was designed to give back to those who appreciate, participate and support Navy Voluntary Education.

Effective October 2012, the Navy College Office Little Creek-Fort Story will reinstate the administration of the Defense Language Aptitude Battery and Defense Language Proficiency Testing Programs. The Navy Foreign Language Testing Program is an essential component of the Navy Language, Regional Expertise, and Culture (LREC) Program. The Defense Language Proficiency Testing (DLPT) system is the only test battery authorized for assessing an individual’s proficiency in a foreign language and for determining qualification for receiving a Foreign Language Proficiency Bonus (FLPB). The DLPT includes tests in listening, reading and speaking to include the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). Exams will be administered on Monday’s 0900 at the Navy College Office, JEB Little CreekFort Story. Exams are administered by appointment only. Effective October 1, 2012, paper based GED exams will no longer be available at DANTES testing sites. Therefore, The Navy College Office, JEB Little Creek-Fort Story will administer the last paper-exams September 26th. The GED will be available at National Test sites. Examinees may seek reimbursement using the DANTES Form 1560/47 which can be obtained by visiting the Navy College Office.

Great News!!!! Thomas Edison State College BSAST in Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology program has been accredited by Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.
BSAST in NUCLEAR ENERGY ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM is: _ Designed for reactor operators and other workers in commercial electric power plants, military or research reactors. _ College credit will be awarded for the following licenses and certifications:
• Nuclear Regulatory Commission Reactor Operator or Senior Reactor Operator License - up to 60 credits • Navy Basic Nuclear Power School (after 1961) 41 credits • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists - 30 credits _ Adults complete course work where and when they want to; academic programs revolve around your needs. _ Degree can be completed via online courses, examination programs, prior learning assessment, by transferring previously earned credits from regionally accredited institutions and through professional training that has been evaluated by the College or the American Council on Education (ACE) College Credit
ECPI University will begin teaching English Composition 110 to Wounded Warriors next month. ECPI is excited to be the first school to participate in the Navy College pilot program to help injured Sailors and Marines continue their education through the Wounded Warrior Program. Students will not only learn how to write college-level essays, they will also learn how to integrate all of the class material with today’s latest technology as the entire course will be taught using iPads. An iPad will be assigned to each student at the beginning of the course to be returned at the end of the 5 week class. Students will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays for 2.5 hours of in seat instruction and will be able to participate via their iPad for classes held online on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Welcome to Vincennes University! We were founded in 1801 by our 9th President, William Henry Harrison, in Vincennes, Indiana. We offer Associate Degrees which are transferrable to four-year institutions, and

we are regionally accredited by the NCAHLC. It is never too late to register at Vincennes University. We have open enrollment for classes starting on the 5th, 15th, or the 25th of every month, and you can take up to six (6) months to finish your course. Our courses are internet-based to fit your schedule. Classes can be paid for by Tuition Assistance – the rate is $221.00/semester hour. There is no application fee or registration fee with Vincennes University. 15 credits (5 classes) must be earned at the sophomore (200) level and 6 credits (2 classes) must be earned through Vincennes University to meet our residency requirement. Out of the 60 credits (20 classes) that one needs to take with Vincennes, 15 credits (5 classes) must be completed from an accredited college (either from VU or from another school). The rest of your credits can be transferred in from your military credits and/or CLEP/DSST exams. In the Virginia area, your Academic Advisor is Frances “Chi-Chi” Grant. She is located on Naval Station Norfolk Tuesday-Thursday from 9 A.M. to 2 P.M. and on JEB Little Creek the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month from 9 A.M. to 12 noon. Associate’s, and Bachelor’s degrees can be accelerated through your rating allowing you to utilize credits already achieved through your military training. All of UMUC’s rate related degrees are available completely on line. You can also choose to take classroom classes with local institutions and transfer them to UMUC. You are not limited to the degrees within the partnerships. UMUC offers 30 undergraduate programs online to include marketable degrees such as: Cybersecurity, Computer Network and Security, Investigative Forensics, Homeland Security, Digital Media and Web Technologies and Business Administration. An initial review of your transcripts can be done right at the Navy College Office. If you have an NEC of 9502 or have a MTS certificate and need a Bachelor’s Degree or just need the credentials to become a trainer, this is the program for you.
