COVER LETTER Dear Gina Bettelli, I would like to apply for a job at MAC Cosmetics as a makeup artist. I have been passionate about makeup since the eight grade, and have always dreamed of pursuing a career in this industry. More specifically, I would like to apply for a job doing makeup for runway shows. I want this job because I feel it would be an amazing opportunity for artistic expression. I really love how different makeup looks under different fashion houses are so individual and really communicate the styles associated with that particular season. Additionally, I really love how some makeup looks on the runway can be so simply beautiful or so peculiar. Because I have been passionate about makeup since the eight grade, I have been studying and practicing for many years. I have done many small freelancing jobs, so I have a lot of experience with makeup application on other people. I grew up in a very creative household, and I found my chosen medium for expressing my inherent creativity in makeup. I would love to bring this creativity into play at MAC. I am interested in working for MAC Cosmetics, rather than another company, because I love the renowned level of professionalism associated with MAC, and the excellence of its products. I love the inclusivity of MAC, and their refusal to reject anyone on the basis of anything, such as race, age or sex. My talents and my personal ethics match well with those of your company, and I value a chance to be part of your team. Sincerely, Chloe Hislop

SELF ANALYTICAL EVALUATION I honestly have always felt that since yearbook is structured so differently from my other classes, I learn more real life skills in this class than any other. In terms of actual production skills, I learned more about how to work design programs like eDesign, since this was my first year being in charge of actually putting together spreads. I really have found a passion in graphic design, andI hope to be on the publications staff of my college, so those skills will be useful in the future. My writing has also gotten better because of all the editing and critiquing it goes through in this class, and that will certainly help me in all areas in the future. I think that in yearbook, we learn the most about deadlines. I think something that’s important to know about deadlines is that even if you think you have it together, things can always suddenly get in the way and so it’s important to have a back up plan for getting everything completed. I also have learned the importance of mini-deadlines, because sometimes it seems as though you can get everything finished in one shot, but really you should’ve examined the steps more closely along the way. I think that our staff in really strong, especially the team leaders. The New York trips and yearbook camp brought us all together, and so we collaborate really well. However, being friends with the other staff members simultaneously makes things easy and more difficult. Things are made harder because you do not always want to confront your friends when they are not getting their work done. I have learned that journalism ethics are very complicated and you have to pay very strong attention to them. The hardest part about writing for yearbook is learning the difference between fact-based adjectives and opinion-based adjectives, and staying away from opinion-based adjectives. It is so easy to let an opinion accidently slip into what you are writing. I consider myself very committed to yearbook. On deadline nights, I regularly stayed after my work was done to help the editors with whatever else needs to be finished. I have gone with Ashley, Korie, and Mia to Janey’s on the weekends to help them with design and finishing little things on the pages, and I am the only team leader who has gone to help. When my team members are absent, I will conduct interviews for them, even if I have my own things to complete during class. I stay after school to work on spreads regularly. I think the thing that proves my commitment the most is that I really do care about how this book turned out. I am so excited that it is quality and award winning and I want to be able to be proud of the work I have done in class this year. This year, I faced a problem with my workload. Outside of yearbook, I am in two AP classes, plus an off campus college class and I had a lot of difficulty with fitting everything into my schedule of yearbook, homework, and applying to colleges. My biggest weakness is that I cannot really handle stress well, and I tend to panic and become irritable. To overcome this, I need to work on asking other people for help when things are too much to handle, and just pushing to get everything done instead of panicking and saying that I cannot possibly do it.
REFLECTION #2 My most significant work for the publication this year would be the spread on the fall play, Peter and the Starcatcher. This is my favorite spread for a lot of reasons. Design wise, the colors in the photos match the colors on the spread, so the whole thing looks very visually appealing. Additionally, it includes the mod I am most proud of completing, which is the “Catch of the Day” makeup mod. I really like how it turned out, and I think it’s a creative kind of mod. I also like this spread because we chose good angles for the main story and the mods. The main story is about the lead role in the play breaking his toe, and how that affected the rest of the performance. This spread was somewhat difficult to complete because I had a lot of ideas for different types of mods we could do, and not all of them were viable. The layout of the spread went pretty smoothly because most of the content lends itself easily to design, and we had a lot of good photos to work with.

I think next semester, I will start checking in with my team members more regularly to make sure that they are getting quality work completed, and maybe asking John to check in with them too because they do not always tell the truth. reflection 1 The most significant piece of writing I did this year was the story I wrote about Film and TV. It was really difficult to write because I struggled a lot with finding an interesting angle because there was nothing especially exciting happening in the beginning of the year in that class. I ended up finding an angle I really enjoyed when doing my interviews. I found two students who both wanted to pursue careers after high school in filmmaking. It evolved from what was going to be a boring, general story about a CTE class, to a story I thought was interesting and enjoyed writing. First DraftTaylor Waters has been able to explore her passion for film making through Film and TV. This is her second year taking the class, and her third year participating in film related classes. Waters has found that the class is a good creative outlet for her, because she loves photography and filmmaking. “I can do something I love and earn credit at the same time,” Waters said. Waters hopes to go into movie production or film editing and taking the class has, “really helped me get a feel for what I like and dislike in filmmaking,” Waters said. Another student who has found his niche in film production is Daniel Cropman. He is in his third year of Film and TV, and as an experienced student he’s, “…been given more responsibility in terms of being trusted to complete important projects, like the Senior Splash video,” Cropman said. Cropman wants to graduate from college with a film production degree and become a director. “In my opinion putting together your own film is fun. You get to plan out the many different types of shots that you want to use, as well as create dialogue if necessary, and then you get to edit it all together in Adobe premiere and watch it,” Cropman said. Cropman has also formed close bonds with his classmates and they have all learned to play off each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Final Draft-
reflection 2 I am proud of this photograph because it captures school spirit really well and it will be a photo that will bring up memories for students when they are looking back on their yearbooks.
I am proud of this mod because I really like how the design turned out, and I feel like it was a really clever idea. I also really enjoyed taking the photos for it and putting it together.
I am proud of this photograph because it is being used as a dominant photo on the football spread, and it really helps tell the story of the girl on the football team.
all about me
I wrote the main story on this page, and I took the dominant photo, the other photos that go with the story, and the photos that go with the business mod.
I wrote the mini story about the guitar classes, and I captioned a majority of the photos.
I designed the left side of the page, and helped Meghan with the profile mod and did the cutous.
I took all the photos for the photo strip and helped design the finals mod and the trilingual mod.
I captioned photos on this page and helped design the ‘pin it to win it’ mod.
I took all the photos for this page, and I did the whole mermaid makeup mod, including design photos and writing. I helped write captions and design the rest of the page.
