Dear Lori Hart: I am writing in response to your opening in the CSHS Yearbook (The Shadow) for the Layout Editor. I have a lot to offer your publication, including two years of experience in yearbook. Some specific accomplishments include: • • •
Organize files and placement to make interaction with EDesign run very smoothly. Teach next years staff a way to organize the files and pages. Offer additional assistance and knowledge to other staff members, managing time well.
Does this sound like the person you need? If it does, I am eager to speak with you. I’ve enclosed my resume for your review. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Korie Kerr

Look back at all the pictures you took this year and choose one you are proud of
My favorite pictures I took this year were a photo series of all the people I went out to eat with.
I really like candid photos of people, when they’re not expecting to get their picture taken. I especially love the picture of Riley on the top and Rachel on the bottom because of the angle. I think people look really beautiful in candids when they’re smiling and looking down. I wanted to put them in the middle of the picture because it makes them the center of focus and there are leading lines to them. I also paired them with quotes that matched that matched the feeling of the pictures from things they had said throughout the night/day. I really loved the ambiance of the restaurant in Jordan’s picture (the second from the top). The bright white walls made her smile seem even brighter.
R evised R efl ec tion #5 a.What problems/hardships did you face this year?
At the beginning I wasn’t sure exactly hat my job was so I wasn’t confident in my position and what
I should have been doing.
b. What did you learn from the situation(s) and how would you handle those problems if they arose again?
I learned how to adapt and make the best of a difficult situation. I also learned how to manage stress
better.

How were you an asset to this staff and the 2015-16 edition of The Shadow? The biggest asset I pose on the staff this year is my ability to solve people’s problems. Many people left the staff after accepting responsibility and saying that they were going to do things that they Didn’t end up doing. This put a lot of pressure on the team leaders to get stuff done in time for deadlines. I had to step in for them and write stories or do whatever they needed me to do. I wrote two stories Rise for the blue team, one about Mr.Pawenski and his first year at the school and another one about all the events the key Club works every year. I learned a lot about InDesign and how to make different kind of spreads and more about design. I also did a lot of editing this year since a certain staff member (Ashton) didn’t do all of their work on time. Overall this year I felt like backup to everyone else.
R e f l e c ti o n #6 What is your greatest weakness publication related? What could you do to overcome this weakness? The greatest weakness that I think I should overcome is my ability to take pictures that are above average. I would like to be able to help

I should be able to take fairly good pictures and I’m disappointed in myself that I cannot. I hope to learn more about photography this summer and the coming year so that I can contribute tithe publication even more and gain new talents.

Over, the years I have grown quite a bit, both in my abilities
and in my knowledge. At the very start of my ‘career’ in yearbook I knew next to nothing. I began my sophomore year thinking that I was good at taking pictures, and quickly learned that I was not. I knew the basics of Photoshop from Mr. Scott’s Digital Journalism class I had taken my freshman year. In reality I didn’t really know what I needed to in order to be useful. I also knew nothing about InDesign. I learned some tips for InDesign from Katie Fricker, who was a wonderful designer, my freshman year and my team leader (Yearbook Mom). She basically taught me the basics of InDesign, of which I would go into more depth my junior year. Christina Dragone and some of the other editors/staff members taught me some useful
tricks for Photoshop that were commonly used in the book each year. At the start of my junior year, it was my first time being an editor. This brought on a lot more responsibility for me, but I welcomed it. As the Content Editor I needed to know what everyone was doing for every story and mod. I ended up learning about pretty much everything that we use for the yearbook, from organizing files to creating spreads in InDesign. I do feel very confident in my InDesign skills now, and in my Photoshop skills. I would often come in during lunch or when I had nothing to do during class and look up random tutorials for Photoshop and recreate them. It made me feel much more useful to the staff because people often ask me for help now. I feel very good about the changes that I have gone through over the years in yearbook.

matter when facing true love?
Recounting the terrors of being a nanny, Kerr tells how she has learned from her experiences
Doors being slammed, food being thrown, and hair being pulled is an average day for Korie Kerr, a junior. Everyday she gets the pleasure of balancing her own mental instability along with two boys, Kaden Hansen, a third grader, and Konnor Hansen, a second grader. Kerr has to keep a tight schedule with the boys because if they don’t have one they will be out of control causing her to struggle getting them in control by the time their mom comes home. The boys each have a rebellious, troublemaker side and when they are together it is double trouble, causing there to be double the anxiety, stress, and exhaustion for Kerr. “This job is legitimate birth control, those kids drive me crazy and every time I am there it reminds me why I never want to have kids,” said Kerr. “One time I was making dinner and in their house they have an alarm system where if the door opens the alarm says which door is opening. The two
boys divided up and went through the house opening all of the main doors causing the alarm system to keep beeping. I was scared someone was breaking in so I was running around to all of the doors and the boys were nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden they jump out at me, tackle me and start to pull my hair,” said Kerr. Due to the two boys constantly purposely doing tricks just to make Kerr’s life harder she has learned to acquire the characteristic of patience, sweet talking, and perseverance. Kerr has been able to take what she has learned from babysitting and implement it in her everyday life. “People have a lot of childish habits and I have learned the skills that I use in babysitting Staring at the projected art at the Moeusam works with people to make them Modern Art in New York, Erika Richwagen cooperate with me.
