Resume
This semester was my second semester with a real leadership position. I was given a fantastic team of three girls who are always down to work. In the course of this semester I have learned to be more on top of my responsibilities and micromanage to make sure things are getting done properly. This semester was very rocky because I had a lot of spreads to do at the same time, four of them to be exact. However this year I was able to get them done relatively well and they came out really well and clean. This semester taught me a lot. I learned how a spread should really look and how to put things in a way that makes them nice to look at. In the future, meaning next year, I will be able to put spreads together that are designed well, with a structure and they will look neater and cleaner. My main concern with spread building is so that the reader will actually want to read what is on the page. I think with my new knowledge that I will be able to pull this off. Furthermore, when it comes to deadlines, I learned more from those than any other. I learned that panic mode will set in if you don’t have everything there in that moment. It showed me how important deadlines were and that if we do not meet them then we are screwed. In the future I think I need to plan a little better for those respective nights. I need to make sure that my team actually has their stuff done and that is to the quality that it needs to be. When it comes to teamwork, I believe that my team and I worked very well together. I think that I was as helpful to them as I could of been. If I could change something, I wish it would be that I knew more. I feel as though I lack some knowledge when it comes to running a team, however I do believe that I did the best that I could possibly do. I put a lot of work on my team so that they could learn, because in my sophomore year I truly had no idea what indesign even was. I have always been honest when it comes to yearbook. If I make a mistake then it is my responsibility to fix it and not lie. I always made sure my team was actually writing something original and creative and to the best of their ability. Especially in journalism, I believe it is one of the most important parts. There is no point of being a journalist if you are not going to be honest. In my opinion I was as helpful as possible this deadline. I stayed longer on deadline nights then I truly needed to. I have stayed during my classes to help the editors who are constantly swamped with work towards the end of a deadline. I am extremely committed to this publication, it is my second year and I plan to come back next year and help lead the team. I even helped on the

weekends with spreads when that job was not in my title at all considering I was just supposed to put everything on the spread and let the design team take it from there. One of my main problems this year, was honestly getting everything onto spreads with all the pictures and information. I think I got lazy considering the book was going to be over in March.. I tend to get lazy easily when it comes to the yearbook because I just want it to be over sometimes because it is a big ball of stress in my life. If problems like this arose in the future, I believe that I just need to learn to be more organized and correct. My greatest weakness would probably be photography. I just need to take more opportunities to take photos. Next year I will take photos at more events and truly get to know the camera and how everything works when it comes to lighting and all that. Since I will be an editor I will have more responsibility and help out much more.
This year I have put together a lot of spreads. All in all my favorite would have to be the spread on swim. Visually it is beautiful, full of blues and greens that make you feel as though you want to go for a swim. The spread is also set up quite nicely with a plethora of photos and by far there is a lot of information on it. For example I did a mad lib that a girl told me about something that went wrong at one of their meets that was actually super interesting. Along with that my team was also extremely helpful with this spread. Emma put in a lot of work and even went to the pool at like eight at night. Olivia had an amazing story about a boy who was dared to be on the swim team and actually loved it and was super good at it. We also did a story about what they do in order to prepare for their meets and such. So all together I really enjoy the spread because it stands out but also fits into the book very nicely and is just incredibly pretty to look at. So if you ever go into the yearbook, you should definitely check that one out. ;)
