Podcasting Basics (Garageband)

Materials: Laptops with iMovie/Garage Band, Video Cameras or digital recording device (H2 Zoom), 1394 cable

Audio Podcasting with Garage Band • You can capture the audio podcast with the built in mic or with the H2 Zoom. The default is the built in mic. • When you open a “new” document in Garage Band, it will ask you if you want to create a new project. Select the “Create a podcast episode” option. • This will provide you with a narrator voice track. Select this track for voice recording. It will be highlighted in blue. • In the right, bottom portion of the screen you should see a little “i” icon. Click on that and you’ll see an area appear to manipulate the voice track. Select “”podcasting” => “male (or female) radio”.

Now you’re set to begin recording your audio podcast. Make sure to speak clearly into the built in microphone after pressing the record button in the center of the Garage Band interface.

• Once you’ve recorded the introduction, body and wrap up, hit stop. Now you’re ready to add a jingle. Select the eye symbol icon in the bottom left of the interface. See the word “jingles”. Click there and browse through some of the songs you can use at the introduction of the podcast.

Once you’re found one, click and drag it into its own track below the voice track.

You’ll want to move the audio clips around to time them appropriately with the intro music. You can cut audio clips the same as in iMovie by selecting the clip, positioning the playhead and pressing command “T”. • Once you’ve positioned everything and it given it a listen, you’re ready to export the podcast for uploading to your site.

Topic 4: Exporting from Garage Band • In the menu bar select: Share => Export song to Disk

=> compress for MP3 encoder high quality.

Then, just give it a name and select a location to store your podcasts.
