The brand was born out of growing up in a family of World War II Army Air Force veterans, a passion for history, a love for aviation, and nearly a lifetime as military and warbird aviators spanning three generations. This passion is tangible in the long term sponsorship preserving aviation history at the American Airpower Museum at historic Republic Airport in NY, and to causes supporting today’s veterans. Careful attention has been given to the 34th Bomb Squadron embroidered patch on the left chest. During WWII, the ‘battle worn” look of a pilot’s jacket was a visual reflection of his courage and bravery. Recreating this effect, the antique lambskin features natural surface irregularities and graining to recreate a weatherbeaten appearance. STYLE # Z21V60 • MADE IN THE USA Prior to December 1941 as a volunteer fighter squadron fighting the Japanese in China, the American Volunteer Group was nicknamed the Flying Tigers. Absorbed into the Army Air Force on July 4th 1942, the 23rd Fighter Group was the official new name for the AVG, but they kept their nom de guerre “The Flying Tigers”. In the interest of historical accuracy, we made changes to the style by adding a vintage rack stitch knit waistband. As in early period accurate G-1s, this model does not have the “USN” punched through the wind flap. For authenticity, the leather and the patches have been created with a special vintage treatment which results in uneven lettering in places. Decorated with all 17 patches and the mil spec USN Anchor pin, this aviation jacket conforms to the movie original and is an unsurpassed piece of naval and movie history. Originally adopted by the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, this iconic nylon jacket has been worn by various armed forces. In the 1980s the MA-1 was even used by U.S. Army helicopter crews and is known as the “Nylon Pilot’s Jacket”.
