Welcome to the 11th Annual Hocking County Farm Bureau Ag Days! We certainly have a lot to be thankful for in our agricultural community. Today, agriculture is still Ohio’s #1 industry contributing over $93 billion to the state’s economy annualy. There is a lot happening on Ohio Farms.

Yet, with all of this activity there are still some things that you may not know about today’s agriculture. For instance, did you know that a farmer today produces enought food and fiber for 155 people in the United States and abroad? Compare that with a farmer only being able to produce enought food and fiber for just 19 people back in 1940 and you can see just how much more productive farmers have become. Did you also know that 98% of all Ohio farms are family owned and operated? Ohio farm families give great care to the land, crops and animals on their farms each and every day to provide us with a safe, local and affordable supply of food, fiber and fuel. And as Americans, we spend less than 6% of our annual disposable income on food for ourselves compared to a whopping 50% in the country in Indonesia or 41% in Jordan.

Without question, farming has changed over the years. However, what hasn’t changed, is the hard work and dedication that Ohio farmers put in to feeding a growing world. Farming and agriculture is not just a job, it’s a way of life. That rural lifestyle is what we are here to celebrate this weekend. So be sure to try some of our homemade apple butter, visit our blacksmith, cheer on our tractor pull competitors and experience our giant saw mill and steam engine. Welcome to our celebration of American agriculture. Visit Ag on Ap Days in 2020 ril 18 th & 1 9th! Sincerely, 2019 AG Days Steering Committee 2019 AG DAYS • 1

If you’re not a farmer, why would you want to join the Ohio Farm Bureau? Do you believe property rights should be protected? Do you want to see Ohio produce more of its own clean burning fuel? Do you want government to spend your tax dollars wisely? If you answered yes, you’ve just answered your own question about a membership in the Farm Bureau. Farm Bureau is about good government. About having high expectations of our elected leaders, and advising them with integrity and plain old common sense. Sure, those are age old farm values, but they are probably yours as well. Your membership in Farm Bureau supports thousands of families who are commited to making Ohio a better place to live, work, and play. Be part of Ohio’s effective, respected and responsible voice for good government. Be a part of Farm Bureau.

Why Farm Bureau Legislative Voice - Farm Bureau’s lobbyists ensure that quality legislation is enacted that benefits the agricultural industry and promotes the farmer’s bottom line. Benefit - Members do not need to continually monitor local, state and national issues on a daily basis to identify legislation that could be potentially hazardous to their business and this allows them more time to devote to the profitability of their business and the quality of their family life. The Center for Food & Animal Issues - Ohio Farm Bureau created the Center, which provides information regarding food and animal issues to facilitate educating the public on the roles that animals play in our lives and in society. Benefit - Members can count on the Center to identify and engage diversified stakeholds who believe animals add value to human life each and every day and to address issues, problems and challenges facing animals with particular emphasis and priority place upon food producing animals. Legal Analysis - Farm Bureau has a number of resources available to members including the Legal Information Series which covers issues such as CAUV, trespassing, oil and gas leasing, line fence laws and more. Benefit - Farm Bureau educates members on how new or existing laws will affect their farms and communities. Polical Engagement - Voter education materials, promotional displays, Information about running for office and other resources are promoted and used by our members. Benefit - Farm Bureau’s political engagement is guided by the grassroots membership base which is most evident in Farm Bureau’s Agricultural for Good Government PAC. AGG PAC allows for our members to identify and support like-minded candidates for public office as “Friends of Agriculture.” 2019 AG DAYS • 41
