SELECTED WORKS | 2012-2019

Jeffrey Stevens is an architectural designer, landscape designer, and contractor. After receiving his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly Pomona in 2015, projects in China and Russia provided a variety of design work. He is currently president of Oakbrook Landscape inc., a residential design build firm. His major competition wins include the Julius Shulman Award for Emerging Talent in 2015 and Space for Future of Education in 2016. The latter resulted in the design commission for the PERI Cultural and Educational Center in Makhachkala, Russia which is currently under construction. His professional work has been featured on ArchDaily and on display at the Anchorage Museum of Art. His current research and design interests include the tension that exists at the intersection of modernity, mythology, representation, and abstraction.

PERIMETER CIRCULATION DIAGRAM

PERIMETER: Built on the flat grounds of Makhachkala, the circulation strategy places the

second stair required for fire code on the exterior. It links every public part of the building to the terraces.

GAMSUTL One of the oldest Avari settlements in the Dagestan region, Gamsutl was built on the side of a mountain with an approximate slope of 1:1. The circulation strategy uses shared stairways, open roof terraces and footbridges to navigate the diďŹƒcult terrain. The at roofs of the lower houses connected to the public street providing small semi-public outdoor spaces.

CHOKH Built after Gamsutl, the mountain village of Chokh was built on a 1:2 slope. Still inhabited by over one thousand people it provided a useful resouce for observing how the inhabitants navigated the network of paths and used the public space.
