Simeon Aldrich agreed to raise the road by his house in order to ease the hill to the east




1808 1816 ‌this road has been extended eastward from [Kingston] across the Hudson to the Salisbury line. But for the error in the law that sanctioned. that route, and has favored the views of speculators, we would by this time have the road in complete repair between Kingston and Jericho. Few [Turnpikes] have more disappointed the hopes of all its patrons

The ‌ route being considered would add a six-lane highway on the east side of the Hudson somewhere north of the George Washington Bridge to pass through Dutchess Putnam and Westchester Counties.
