The Kept Private
Would you be surprised to learn that the town of Milan’s population of People of Color 250 years ago, in colonial times, largely African American, was 8 times larger than it is today? So where are their stories? Here is one answer.
“The Kept Private” is a multimedia theater piece based on conversations in our community about slavery and race in rural Upstate New York, historical documents, census data, and the 1835 Revolutionary War pension application of a 93 year old Black farmer from Milan named Andrew Frazier.
