Early Rural NY African American History
Before the Civil War, there was a large and vibrant African American community in the rural areas of the Hudson River Valley, both slave and free, which largely disappeared after the Civil War. This is an attempt to look at that history: the history itself, and the telling (or lack thereof) of that history.
