BEACH LIGHTING

BEACH ACCESSIBILITY

Did you know sea turtles nest at night? These creatures use natural light to orient themselves on the beach, but man-made light can confuse them. Reduce harmful impacts on sea turtle nesting by closing blinds & drapes and using turtle-safe flashlights, available for purchase at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. These flashlights illuminate true red (580 nm or longer wavelength) and allow you to safely enjoy the beach without disturbing sea turtles.

Jekyll Island is committed to beach accessibility for residents and guests with disabilities. Four public beach access points are accessible: St. Andrews (#67), Oceanview (#26), Great Dunes (#32), and Beach Village Crossover (#38). Beach-going wheelchairs are available and can be delivered for use at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call 912.635.2368 for reservations.
