The city of Gorizia is unique because it is divided into two states, Italy and Slovenia. The project focuses on the issue of socialization of the two nations, creating a new collective city where interventions are designed to foster intercultural and intergenerational exchanges, interactions and encounters. Playground refers to a space where you can spend your free time and where you are having fun. The idea is to create a new connection axis that would become a new social and collective hub with the aim to attract Italians and Slovenians to reach the goal of social up lift (increasing socialization) by adding new features. The axis ends with two poles placed in existing industrial zones that have all predispositions to attract not only residents, but also new visitors. Along the axis alternate different spaces which make the area more dynamic and vibrant all year long. 1

FLUBBER

The main idea is to create a new boulevard, a filament that integrates urban spaces by generating new attraction poles. The Flubber should fill the empty spaces and the abandoned areas through the insertion of a new structure that results in a new sequence of spaces and different functions which create recognizable urban episodes. The intention is to unify the spaces by non-operating on the facades but by introducing new fluid forms that give a contemporary image to the city. The path either above or below, becomes a place to play, relax and study; where the user or the viewer becomes part of this striking space. Along the boulevard on the ground floor of the buildings, different commercial sector activities should be implemented in order to give primary importance to this axis.

OLYMPIC SWIMMING POOL The project involves the construction of a new Olympic Aquatic Centre that contains two indoor and two outdoor pools. The main characteristic is carried by the presence of functional boxes that are inserted in the internal space of the building. The focus is made on the facade as this guarantees identity and urbanity. The building is covered with translucent glass that allows the transformation by image, light and color projection.

STRIPS The project is placed in the area of important natural diversity and it is also very well connected with the city of Trieste which is located in close proximity. The idea was to create a new sports center which could also be used by the citizens of Trieste, for various group and personal trainings either professional or for leisure. The program provides numerous apartments and special spaces for training. Healthy living is the central point of this place, therefore the sports center features an organic food restaurant which supplies are furnished from garden nearby and local farms. Big attention is given to the ramps that lead to the top of the buildings as they allow visitors to enjoy a unique view over the uncontaminated nature surrounding the sports center.

The project includes a renovation of the former hospital of Gorizia. The new space should provide a hub to start-up, spin-off, mature companies and freelance artists by restructuring productive, residential and commercial areas which enable new relationships between the concepts of living, working and leisure.

RELATION LIVING - WORKING

Special studios were made in the section for artists. Every room has three spatial units ideal for: working, sleeping and inspiration. Priority in composition was given to the space for inspiration. Two types of rooms are designed: for a single person and for a couple.

EXHIBITION 4I4IGO

This exhibition includes the final work made by the students of the Laboratory of integrated design which is part of the Master of Science in Architecture. The exhibition covers the topic on borders and relations between the two cities and nations. Four groups of students presented four separate projects in four distinct showrooms.

My group was composed of 13 fellow students and we examined different small spaces in the two cities, the so called “playgrounds. Based on this theme we imagined our show room more like a one big playground full of surprises thus our part of the exhibition tried to entertain and inspire.
