LEARNING FROM THE MASTER :PROCESS AND OPRATION PRINCIPLE
PHASE 1 The objective of this project is learning to understand, analyze the space of architecture by 2D drawing and 3D modeling. Analyzing the case space by mean of abstraction or simplification to extract the unique spatial characteristic and essence. The key point is the training to understand the operation principle behind the architectural form and design.

M-House is an urban, single and two-floor unit developed for a couple without children. The challenge for the architects was to incorporate the outside to the inside of the house. Also, the addition of three strips of empty / patios, play the key role bringing in abundant natural lighting, ventilation and connection to outer space while providing the necessary independence to various compartments of the house.

LEARNING FROM THE MASTER :PROCESS AND OPRATION PRINCIPLE
PHASE 2 Utilize the operation principle and skill found in this case study to manipulate the concept model. Create new possibility of space and understand how different spatial elements, circulation and systems formed.

Penetration and material phenomenon Adopt concept of misplace to create the equal volume of void space. The combination of two units brings the inside and outside space to a specific module. The spatial boundary between the two is define by transparent material bringing the two spaces into dialogue. Adding on the upper units to create semi-open transitional space between inside and outside.
22
23
The space define by light Define the space by the light emit from the edge of the material. Transparent material thus, leaves only the boundary line, from which the opaque material becomes a floating mass drifting in space and, at the same time, serve as guidance for visitor.

Classify penetrability for sight and light of different materials. Use nine-square arrangement to create different sight and light penetrating characteristics. Discuss whether the superimposition of different materials can blur the space definition and soften the light at the same time. Finally, combine various materials and continuous dislocation, visual overlap and/or separation blurs the perception of spatial depth while hiding the exit and removing hierarchy to achieve the equity.
26
27
28
Combining the above elements, the space is arranged and misplaced to make transparent and opaque materials interlaced in the same modular. Apart from the physical space equality, a further step was taken using the vague spatial depth to confuse the perception of spatial definition to achieve the perception of space equity. 29

GENERATE CONTEXT
The process of formal implantation, derivation and environment embedding involves three aspects: form generation, environmental condition of the site and endue the functionality of the transformation. Through a series of linguistic operation to achieve fully coordination and integration of all parts.

ANALYSIS
The site is locate in TKU
Circulation The site is like an aisle, lacking space for people to hang around. People sometimes crowed in front of the store.
Vision Free of obstacle to the sight, easily seeing through the site even before entering. Aisle space resemble a void space with an apparent boundary to the building besides.

Sometimes the light go through directly, sometimes shade by trees, sometimes reflected from the surface of other buildings. The artificial lights are mostly emitted by classroom and store.

The objective of this exercise is to create more space to stay and the boundary of aisle space and building besides, to recreate the semi-open space produced by the shade of trees at the same time.
43
44
Firstly, extend the grid system from interior to exterior. Place the modular reformed form the grid system into the site before misplacing each of the modular. In order to remove the sense of mass, to blur the boundary and to respond to the shade, making it fragmentary to create a transitional effect. Then divide the misplacing mass into closed, semi-open and open area.

46
Next, adjust the mass vertically, create different function of height for bench, parapet and roof.
47
48
Insert the wall, opaque and transparent, demonstrating both the solid and void mass. Intends to create a conscious of fusion, indoor mimic outdoor and vis versal, to achieve the ultimate homogeneity.
Raising height of interior to respond the void mass outside and arrange consecutively, enabling outside stair incorporated into inside gradually.
49
Extending misplace of inside and outside of the mass, insert the void mass into interior to create a semi-open space. In addition to horizonal relationship of inside and outside, inserts of higher and lower levels was adding into this relationship.
Having the limit to preserve the kitchen, a void space corresponding to the kitchen space was created to counter-balance the sense of mass.
