LACUNA DESIGN NOTES Lacuna is a quick and fun knit that can be made with any combination of Shepherdess Alpaca colorways. The Chinese Waves pattern used here makes this unisex hat extra warm and cozy, adding an interesting texture.

STITCH GUIDE Single Rib Stitch (worked in the round) All rnds: *K1, p1, rep from *. Chinese Wave Stitch (worked in the round) Rnd 1: K around. Rnd 2: *P1, sl1 (with yarn in front); rep from *. Rnd 3: K around. Rnd 4: *Sl1 (with yarn in front), p1; rep from *. Rep rnds 1 - 4 for pattern.

DIRECTIONS

Using Color A and long-tail method on US 13 (9 mm) circular needles, CO 48 sts. Join for working in the round and PM, taking care not to twist sts. Work Single Rib stitch pattern for 5 rnds total. Switch to Color B and begin working in Chinese Waves pattern, slipping marker as you come to it, until piece measures 8 inches from CO edge. End with Round 4 of Chinese Wave Stitch.

SHAPE CROWN

Working decrease rnds on Rows 1 & 2 of Chinese Wave Stitch pattern only, maintaining pattern as noted. Shape crown as follows, switching to DPNs when necessary. Crown Decrease Rnd 1: *K6, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd. 42 sts. Next Rnd: Work Rnd 2 of Chinese Wave Stitch pattern. Crown Decrease Rnd 2: *K5, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd. 36 sts.

Next Rnd: Work Rnd 4 of Chinese Wave Stitch pattern. Crown Decrease Rnd 3: *K4, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd. 30 sts. Next Rnd: Work Rnd 2 of Chinese Wave Stitch pattern. Crown Decrease Rnd 4: *K3, k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd. 24 sts. Next Rnd: Work Rnd 4 of Chinese Wave Stitch pattern. Crown Decrease Rnd 5: *k2tog, rep from * to end of rnd. 12 sts.

POM-POM

Cut out two cardboard doughnuts 4 inches in diameter to make pom-pom. Using color A, sandwich a piece of yarn 8 inches long between the two layers. Cut a slit in both pieces of cardboard from outer edge to inner circle. Wind yarn over the doughnut, around and around, working the yarn through the center hole on each pass. Insert a scissors between the two layers of the form and cut the strands of pom-pom yarn where they cross over the outer edge of the circles. Pull up the center yarn tightly. Tie the center yarn in a tight knot. Fluff the pom-pom into shape and trim any stray ends. Use the center 8 inch piece of yarn to attach pom-pom to top of hat.

BLOCKING FINISHING

Cut yarn, leaving a 6-8 in tail. Using tapestry needle, thread rem sts onto tail. Pull tight and secure, weave in ends.

I do not recommend blocking this particular yarn/ garment. If blocking is needed, lay out garment and shape to desired shape and dimensions. Gently spritz with water in a spray bottle until damp, but not soaking wet. Allow to dry completely. 27

HARVEST MOON DESIGN NOTES This scarf is worked flat and uses 4 colorways of Shepherdess Alpaca – Heirloom White, Wood Thrush, Bantam Hen and Starling. Follow the pattern if you’d like the length and order of these colorways to match the photos of shown here, or feel free to make up your own.

Switch to Color A and work in pattern for 6 in.

NEEDLES

Using long-tail method and Color D on US 13 needles, CO 16 sts. All color sections are worked in Slipped Rib Stitch.

Switch to Color C and work in pattern for 12 in. Switch to Color A and work in pattern for 8 in. Switch to Color B and work in pattern for 16 in.

Switch to Color C and work in pattern for 8 in. Switch to Color A and work in pattern for 12 in. Switch to Color D and work in pattern for 10 in.

US 13 (9 mm) needles (or size needed to obtain gauge)

BO in pattern, loosely. Break yarn.

MIDNIGHT DESIGN NOTES Midnight is worked seamlessly in the round from the bottom up using Shepherdess Alpaca in Starling. At the underarms, the front and back are knit flat, then seamed at the shoulders. Drop sleeves are knit in the round and then seamed to the body.

Increase round: K1, M1L, k to last stitch of rnd, M1R, k1. 2 stitches increased - 24 (26, 26, 26, 28, 28, 30, 30, 30, 32) sts. Work 6 (6, 6, 6, 5, 4, 3, 3, 3, 2) rnds in established pattern. SEAMING

22 (24, 25, 27, 27, 29, 30, 32, 32, 34) sts rem on each side.

Seam shoulders using shoulder seam stitch. Then, seam sleeves to arm openings using the invisible vertical to horizontal seam.

Work each side at the same time using separate balls of yarn.

EDGING

Next row (WS): P to last 2 sts, p2tog across first set of sts; P2tog, p to end across second set of sts. 21 (23, 24, 26, 26, 28, 29, 31, 31, 33) sts rem each side. Next row (RS): K to last 2 sts, k2tog across first set of sts; K2tog, k to end across second set of sts. 20 (22, 23, 25, 25, 27, 28, 30, 30, 32) sts rem each side. Purl across both sets of sts.
