Sensitive Vine

Mimosa strigillosa Photograph June. Tallahassee, FL. The leaves move! Yep, touch them and they curl up. The flowers are straight from a Dr. Seus book. So tough you can walk or park on it. Flowering Time: May through October. Foliage: The feather like leaves unfurl in early March and go away in late November. Growth Rate: Fast. Ultimate Height: 3 inches Special Care: Plant in dry spots, Be aware that this is an aggressive groundcover. It needs lots of space

and it’s a thug! It will cover all but the most rigid, tough plants. Bees love it. Gardening Tips: Attracts lots of honey bees-- which is great unless you are using it for a lawn substitute. Thrives in full sun, even in parking lots or under the light shade of pine trees. This plant helps capture nitrogen from the air and adds it to the soil. Suggested Combinations: Use with large shrubs to provide ground cover and to help fertilize those plants. Great textural with Crinum lilies, or cardamon erupting out of the low delicate mass. Use under knock-out roses or saw palms. I’m trying this a hanging basket plant this year.
