ABOUT US
Jenman Select & The Rise of Zimbabwe ANSWERING TO AND CREATING SAFARI TRENDS
In 2019, the company celebrates 21 years, a reason as good as any to present a refreshing look of our annual brochure and reflect on political changes that promise a new era for Zimbabwe and inspiring new travel trends.
In late 2017, with the positive political shift in Zimbabwe, a new catchphrase was created: ‘Rise Zimbabwe’. Jenman Safaris has its roots in Zimbabwe and we have been an ambassador for safari experiences in the country for over a decade. Being a specialist on the ground as tour operator and running Hideaways’ eco-lodge Elephant’s Eye, Hwange, we are witnessing a lot of change in the country. The new president (as of March 2018), Emmerson Mnangagwa, has highlighted tourism as a driving force to revive the economy. Several measures have already been put in place to ease up travel to and in the country such as lifting of visa restrictions and the appointment of a new Tourism Minister. A variety of international airlines are now flying into the newly built airport of Victoria Falls and the industry has awakened to rediscover Zimbabwe. Investment into tourism infrastructure has been going strong and the international press is commenting about new opportunities and intriguing wildlife and cultural experiences in alluring Zimbabwe, putting the country back onto the best travel destination lists.
Rise Zimbabwe & Zimbabweans – working together with industry partners, travellers & competitors to share the country’s spirit Above all ‘Rise Zimbabwe’ also means ‘Rise Zimbabweans’; community upliftment projects and a focus on wildlife conservation is at the heart of Jenman’s operation. Only together with our industry partners, clients and competitors can we make Zimbabwe great again and share the country’s spirit with
the world. Discover our bespoke Zimbabwe experiences and new guided group tours in this brochure. Grow Africa, our foundation, will give an insight into the meaningful and much-needed work within our communities and wildlife areas. Visitors to the country will now be able to experience first-hand the exuberance and amazing momentum that is revealing one of Africa’s best-kept secrets. As much as Africa enthusiasts are looking for ‘up and coming’ destinations, a trend of the recent years also shows the need to slow travel down. Travellers are looking for more intimate and slower-paced experiences. Answering this travel trend, we are enthusiastic to launch Jenman Safaris’ new product range, Jenman Select. Jenman Select offers personalised itineraries aimed at the high-end traveller focusing on exclusive travel experiences in strategic key areas and remote locations in Southern Africa, East Africa, and Madagascar (think: interactive involvement, sleep-out experiences, tree houses, walking safaris, etc.). Travel ideas in the Jenman Select category are presented with exceptional service stemming from our company’s long-standing expertise in these destinations with our agents and travellers. In each itinerary, we will include a conservation focus; we do believe that by slowing travel down, allowing guests alternative experiences and more time at a destination enables us to share Africa’s story and the positive impact photographic safaris and our travellers continue to make. “The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa – for he has so much to look forward to.” Sincerely, Katja and Garth

Grow Africa: The Bridge between Challenges & Solutions, Good Will & Action The Grow Africa Foundation was created by Jenman African Safaris and Hideaways with the aim of making a positive impact on the environment, society and economy in the places we visit. Our mission is “to be the Bridge between Challenges & Solutions, Good Will & Action. Collaboration is our keyword, we work with communities in their upliftment so that the results are sustainable and can be continued beyond our involvement, instilling good practices and preparing them for long term self-growth. We also encourage our clients to get involved in making a meaningful difference through various platforms and opportunities. If you would like to contribute, please visit our website: www.jenmansafaris.com/grow-africa/

THE GROW AFRICA FOUNDATION
Our Burning Issues for 2019 As well as overseeing various in-house environmental and socially inclusive projects within Jenman African Safaris and Hideaways, the following projects have been identified as our ‘Burning Issues’ for the year ahead: ROSMEAD PRIMARY SCHOOL Rosmead Primary School in Claremont, Cape Town is close to our office and close to our hearts. The public school receives minimal government funding as it is located in what is considered an affluent area, however, most of the students come from lower income areas and school fees are kept low to accommodate them. Our Big Five Club, made up of volunteer staff, visits the school weekly to assist with the school’s aftercare program. Children learn so much through play and we are dedicated to providing a stimulating play space for them. Last year we built a sandpit, created and delivered brightly painted tyres, and donated a jungle gym to the school. This year our goal is to provide a green area for playing, by laying AstroTurf on the field, as well as drive a fundraising campaign towards building a much needed dining area for the children. DINGANI PRIMARY SCHOOL Dingani Primary School is a rural school in Zimbabwe, close to Hwange National Park and Hideaways eco-lodge Elephant’s Eye, Hwange. Our Foundation supports the school through initiatives such as Project Penya and Pack for a Purpose, as well as conservation awareness projects and school maintenance programs. Our new projects for this year include:
Early Childhood Development Teachers: Currently there is only 1 teacher for 108 ECD students. We, in collaboration with the school, would like to improve this situation by raising funds for teachers’ salaries (US$ 200/Month). For each teacher that we sponsor, the school will hire one as well. Student’s School Fees: More than 50 % of the students cannot afford the school fees (US$ 30/Year). We are appealing to sponsors for assistance. In the collaborative spirit, parents of sponsored children will contribute 2 hours of assistance to the school per week. Project Penya: Last year we successfully achieved our goal of supplying a set of reusable sanitary pads and panties to every Grade 6 and 7 girl at Dingani Primary School. This ensures they don’t miss out on their schooling due to monthly menstruation, empowering them for a better future. This year Project Penya will expand on this success, with educational and community workshops in the pipeline. Thank you for helping us reach this goal! CWF The Conservation and Wildlife Fund (CWF), of which Hideaways is a founding member, is a collaborative group of conservationists and stakeholders in the Hwange National Park region who take action on critical conservation
issues affecting the area. Currently, the most critical issue is illegal poaching, and the CWF is focused on increasing and sufficiently equipping dedicated anti-poaching units. The wildlife of Africa is an incredibly precious resource that desperately needs to be protected. Contributions towards the CWF Anti-Poaching Unit are much needed and greatly appreciated. PACK FOR A PURPOSE Pack for a Purpose is an initiative that allows travellers to give back to the communities they are visiting and make a lasting impact. By sparing just a few kilos of space in their suitcase and using it for much needed school supplies instead, visitors can make a priceless impact on the lives of local children and families. Please see our website for a list of suggested items.
Get Involved We always need help, so if you would like to get involved please contact: info@growafricafoundation.org

Here the pace of life is as slow and drawn out as the island’s magnificent sunsets.

GUIDED GROUP SAFARIS
YOUR GUIDE An expert guide leads the group throughout their journey. All our qualified guides have been carefully selected to provide an exceptional safari experience for our guests. MEALS Most breakfasts and dinners are included and are provided by the lodges’ restaurants. Lunches that are included will either be prepared by the guide as a picnic lunch or will consist of a lunch pack. On some occasions, the guide may prepare a traditional open-air meal around the fire for a wonderfully authentic African experience. ACCOMMODATION Our Guided Lodge Safaris offer mid-range to slightly up-market African lodge accommodation in national parks, concessions and other places of interest. Accommodation is a mix of lodges, chalets, and tented chalets – all with private bathrooms. Wherever possible we use smaller, authentic lodges rather than big hotels for a more intimate experience. PARK FEES AND ACTIVITIES On some of our safaris an additional park or activity fee may apply. This fee will be payable prior to travel along with (and not included in) the main tour fare. Examples include entrance fees to national parks and other attractions, as well as for local guides or miscellaneous items such as fresh fruit from the markets we visit. This fee is indicated as Park Fees and Activities in the brochure under the tour’s rates.
