24TH ANNUAL BULL SALE • APRIL 4, 2023 • AT WELCOME
Welcome to the 24th edition of our bull sale; we present this offering with hope that we have created and assembled genetics that are relevant and useful to the industry. We believe in larger sire groups that give us a sample size that can be fairly evaluated by ourselves and our customers. You will find two main sire groups by walking herd bulls, including Jackson and Statement and a large AI sire group by Resilient. There are 4 full brothers sired by Renovation out of a successful flush and a small sample of America son’s. We do our best to evaluate or research the mother of every bull we use and try to be diligent in the search for sires with good feet, in both our owned walking sires and those that we use in our AI program. We try not to follow the path of genetics that are extreme or significant outliers, and gravitate more towards complete and honest cattle with balanced trait patterns. Our bulls are also developed in a way that we believe will encourage natural maturity and longevity. After weaning in early October, the bulls graze banked grass as long as the weather will allow. After that we keep them in a 5-10 acre area in a large group with a diet of dry hay and whole oats. In late December or early January we move the bulls into a smaller pen and switch them over to a silage based mixed ration with barley, chopped straw and a high protein concentrate with a full vitamin and mineral package. We believe the extra space and exercise is essential for the bull’s development and agility. Keeping them out of dusty pens through the fall months also seems to keep them in good health post weaning. The commercial heifers from Prairie Creek Meadow Ranch will be an elite group sorted off of the very top of their heifer pen and saved specifically for this sale. They have been around people, managed in a small group and will be palpated. The small group of 2-year-old pairs have January and February born calves at side and will make a really nice group of young commercial cows or a great set of early calving recipient’s for an embryo transfer project.
The bulls will be videoed and will be available by late March on DLMS. We would welcome all tours of the bull pen and cow herd prior to sale day. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope you can join us on April 4th for our 24th bull sale.

LORENZ STATEMENT 1K
Recommended for Heifers and Cows
This is the feature bull of the Statement sire group and one of the feature calving ease bulls in the offering, weaned off of a 2-year-old dam with an 816lb adjusted weaning weight. Udder quality runs deep on the bottom side of his pedigree, back to his great grandmother who was a donor female for us, with daughters still in production today. The Statement bull was a bit of a barn find for us at Bar-H, he was not the bull that we set out to own that day but he has matured into an excellent footed sire, that will maintain some size and scale with an ideal head and Angus character.
LORENZ RESILIENT 10K
Recommended for Heifers and Cows
Calving ease Resilient son in the top 25% of the breed for birth weight and calving ease that will not sacrifice performance. His grandmother, 45Z, is as perfect footed and uddered as we have ever bred and her daughters share those same traits. His mother, 10D has consistently had smaller calves with consistent calving ease.

There is a lot we can brag about on this calf, firstly that he had an 800+lb adjusted weaning weight coming off of a 12-year-old dam and that she was the first mature cow to calve here this winter at 13 years of age. But he is also an outlier in his own way combining birth, weaning and yearling data of 78lbs, 810lbs and 1326lbs respectively. He is one that can do more than just work in the heifer pen.

Last year the Bravo sire group was the feature and high selling group in our bull sale and we just calved the first group of daughters, and they are awesome! Bravo did everything right at our place, bulls with calving ease, power, masculinity, hair, good feet and big nuts, and now daughters that are feminine, extra easy fleshing with tidy little udders and small teats. Fortunately, this guy had about half a dozen sisters born with him last year but unfortunately, he will be the only Bravo son for this year’s offering.

Not only has this guy been a favourite all along, but his mother is also one of our favourite young cows, her first three calves have all sorted their way to the front end of their respective contemporary groups and the heifer calf she is nursing this year will have lots of potential as well. 18K is a stout, soggy, Jackson son in a moderate size and compact frame. We expect his daughters to be very maternal and his male progeny to be very marketable.

An elite bull, out of an elite cow and cow family! This America son is impressive from so many angles, he is soft made and easy fleshing with loads of hair and look. He has a special presence and is easy to find in the bull pen. His dam has produced many feature bulls going to both purebred and commercial homes. We hold all of our Prowler daughters in high regard but she is at the very top of the list. She has an excellent foot and square, level udder. 56K’s grandmother, 45Z and great grandmother, 3K had perfect feet and udders as well. 45Z is 11 years old and just had her 10th calf, she is still very youthful and we consider her to be the best of the best at our place, rivaled only by her own daughters and granddaughters. Another daughter of hers is the dam to the feature bull, 73K in this offering. The influence of America worked very well for us, we only have a handful but they are all big bodied and very docile.

This guy is a chunk, and by far the soggiest of the Resilient brothers. He has been one of the top few bulls all along and has continued to pull out in front of the group since weaning. We weigh the bulls periodically throughout the winter and there was one 5-week period that he gained nearly 7 pounds a day while the pen averaged just over 3, so it almost goes without saying that he was the number 1 bull in the group for yearling gain with an incredible index of 151. His 10 year old dam is a moderate framed cow that is very broody and nice uddered, and she is currently nursing an impressive full sister to this guy.

This is one of only two America sons in the offering. This calf had a pretty good picture but it got squeezed out of the catalog as we made everything fit in the layout. He is a direct son of the 45Z cow that we give much praise too, although she has been known more for her elite production of daughters, she has raised some front end bulls including a feature bull last year that went to Blind Creek Angus. She is also the grandmother of some of our favourite bulls this year including 10K, 56K and 73K. This calf has an impressive EPD spread and stems from a foundation cow family.

One of 4 embryo transfer full brothers to sell this year. The combination of Renovation and 1Z has worked extremely well, last year we lead the sale with a full brother who was a pen favourite and this winter we calved the first 3 full sisters, they are broody with nice udders and lots of milk. We think they are going to be very productive cows for us. This one has always been one of our picks of the entire flush and is probably the squarest made, biggest hipped of the group. The 1Z cow needs no introduction to raising herd bulls, as she has raised several influential sires including Unified and United, who both seen use in our own program.

A herd bull candidate with the best cows we have ever bred in his pedigree, he has been our pick of the bull pen since he was just a baby and his mother is our most productive young cow. We are going to flush her this spring and we believe she is a donor female that we should be building around. Her udder is near perfect and she stems from generations of our very best footed cows. Her dam, 45Z is still one of our top producing cows at 11 years of age. A 2-year-old maternal sister to this bull calved here this winter and we think she might be the best first calver that has ever carried our prefix and we are confident that she will also become a donor female for us at some point. When you add the hair and dimension that is consistent in the Jackson sons to a very stacked maternal pedigree it leaves little to be desired.
