Welcome

FROM THE NORTHERN ROSES

Welcome to our 1st annual online sale. We are very excited to have put together a sale offering consisting of 7 impressive open heifer prospects as well as 3 exceptionally deep bred females.

As a group we’ve worked hard over the last several years to bring forward a unique genetic offering of Purebred Shorthorn, as well as Shorthorn Plus females. These females come from the heart of their respective programs. They emphasize what we, as a group, strive for. Easy fleshing, maternal excellence, growth and eye appeal.

We are confident that these females will go out and perform in both the show ring and the pasture. They come from foundation females and cow lines that have proven time and time again to make them correct and productive.

We invite you to attend our open house event which will be taking place on Saturday, September 16th at the Kinsella Ag Grounds, Kinsella, AB. We will have the sale animals on display starting at 10:30am along with a lunch at 1:00pm and a herd management presentation at 2:00pm.

Regards, The Northern Roses Group

DIAMOND CREEK Madi 75K

Madi is very special and an example of the heart that goes into our programs as purebred breeders! This thick, well muscled, easy fleshing, stout, deep structured female with a pedigree to add performance! Is a must see! We purchased Madi last fall to become the replacement of the past, loved dearly 6S Daphne spot here at Cactus Flat Shorthorns. Madi is sturdy on her feet with complete soundness, with a very feminine look about her.

We bred her to Lingley’s Kicks after Six 8K with complete confidence this combination will bring a very exciting offspring for today’s wants and needs. We believe Madi will be one of those gals you can breed any way you want. Diamond Creek did a excellent job on breeding this female. She is becoming everything we expected from her and more! It is with great sadness to be letting go of this female. But we feel confident she’ll become a continued asset to the next herd that becomes her forever home.

Claudia is a female that checks all the boxes here at Cactus Flat to meet our moto. “Quality Beef with Eye Appeal”. We can’t say enough about Claudia! She’s the type of female you can put anywhere, and she catches your eye. We originally purchased Claudia to become another foundation line as we only had two left and they each have 2 consistent working females in production.

Claudia is as thick as she is tall, easy fleshing and very smooth throughout her topline. She is a very kind, docile, loving heifer, that would work well for a junior or firsttime breeder going on show road. She even has a ton of length and doesn’t break in loin while moving out, polled and colour to boot.

She is bred to the Son of 6B’s Guardian ET, Lingley’s Kicks after Six 8K. This cross should complement her well! It is going to be without a doubt a heart wrenching day when she leaves, but a gift to the next breeder! She’s just one of them you never want to part with.

Kricket is out of our largest framed, solid boned, heavy milking, solid hitting first heifer born here at The New Generation of Cactus Flat Shorthorns, Cactus Flat Fidget 2F. We are proud and excited that Kricket’s full sister is now at Brandon Goudy & Laurie Morasch’s at Rosemary, Alberta.

Kricket is a big framed, wide hipped, easy fleshing, deep bodied, docile performance female with excellent bone structure. Breed any way you choose to! The cross of Circle M Field Marshall 2F and Cactus Flat Fidget 2F have proven performance, frame, depth, milk production with a beautifully structured udder. Kricket’s dam is one of the chosen females involved in the Lingley Livestock and Cactus Flat Shorthorns partnership.

Kricket is going to be very hard to part with as she’s not only the daughter of our first heifer, she was the very reason Darcy came home from the hospital a year ago, March 3. We are confident she will become an asset to the next breeder’s program.

Lady in Red is a granddaughter to our show cow DRS Picture Perfect 32D. 32D is the dam of Cactus Flat Kingpin 1K that went to Mexico this past January. Kingpin 1K weighed 1206lbs at exactly 10 months of age the day before he was shipped out to Mexico. Lady is a Prime example of the DRS Picture Perfect line here at Cactus Flat and Lingley Livestock at the present time. Very well-muscled, with a table for a top line, hips to build anything, excellent bone structure, with solid legs and sound feet. Very fertile females with excellent udders to add to the performance of their progeny.

Lady has been a looker since day one. She has unbelievable length, a top line that doesn’t break and solid on her feet with smooth sound motion when moving out. Lady was bred for performance and keep her femininity, with a pedigree to back her. Another exciting Circle M Field Marshall 2F female, that should provide a promising future to the next breeder. Whether it be for show or just a working female in another breeding program.

New Direction truly is a path in a new direction! The result of our Shorthorn Plus program with a base of Limousin genetics to add more performance, muscle mass and capacity. 1L is exactly what we hoped for and more from our Plus program. She’s flawless in her shoulder design, square hipped and has length to make most envious. She’s exceptionally fancy on the profile with a beautiful neck extension.

Not only does she look good, but she’s also got the numbers to back it up! A heifer that weighed down the scales at 728lbs on her dam’s milk and grass on a dry year is something to take note of. She will pass along these performance traits to her progeny! Progeny will be 87.5% if bred to a bull in the purebred herdbook, making resulting females purebred.

Being a direct daughter of Lingley’s Friction 2F, she’ll be highly productive, with ample pelvic room, beautiful udder/teat quality.

Take note of this pedigree! Many breeders have seen the value in the Eionmor Ruby 48Z female that has been arguably the most productive and profitable female in our herd. She’s incredibly fertile, catching on her first cycle every single calving season, even as she rounds the corner to 12 years old. She has produced a “keeper” every single year.

The genetic value this heifer possesses is exceptionally high. 48Z progeny that we have retained in our herd are leaving a long line of good uddered, easy doing and productive cattle. We have many direct daughters in our herd working very well for us, and one that is working well in the Waskwei Creek Ranch herd of Holden, Alberta.

Another direct daughter of Lingley’s Friction to add that maternal boost of the legendary Weebollabolla Theodore T85 and the performance king of BISS Element 79.

This female is one that we probably should not be letting out of the herd. She’s more moderate in her make but she packs a powerful punch in her overall design. She’s exceptionally eye appealing on the profile. Her true power is felt when you do a 360 of her. 16L has loads of muscle shape all down her lower quarter, along with an explosive rib and keeps that power all the way through her top.

Her dam, 15D was purchased out of Agribition, sight unseen. We unloaded her off the trailer and were absolutely floored at what we had purchased. Then she laid down, calved unassisted and dropped about as perfect of an udder as you could ask for. Blair Williamson of Ridge View Cattle Co. definitely bred her right!

Another Friction 2F daughter that we are very certain will go on and be very competitive as well as productive!

Zane’s offering from the top end of his herd, and it was not an easy decision to let this one go.

Her Dam was purchased as a heifer from R over Y Ranch before they decided to run strictly commercial cattle. This is the first heifer calf that 17G has given Zane and she did not disappoint. The “Pearl” cow family from Paintearth Shorthorns is one of their most popular and consistent bloodlines. Laffy Taffy is already showing many of the same attributes as her dam.

Waskwei Cooey 8D is our senior herdsire that we had to let go this summer. A bull that we could confidently turn out on a variety of different cattle and come springtime know what we would be getting. Easy calving, good uddered and nicely shaped. It was hard letting him go.

We are confident 5L will produce some competitive offspring in her future and compete well in the show ring. She will be entered into Olds Fall Classic at the end of September.

This first-time mama has done a great job on her first calf.

Prospect Hill Bambi May 34B was one of the first Shorthorn purchases we made when we started. She was also the dam to our senior herdsire Waskwei Cooey 8D, that sired alot of our commercial calves over the years.

Love Bugs sire Creekside Boosted 16H ET was purchased from Wendy Bishop as a yearling. The bloodlines behind him are the perfect mix of Canadian and American. Pitre 32Z has produced many champions in her time with Creekside Shorthorns and the success produced out of Jungles Shorthorn Farm from North Dakota is known worldwide. Her dam Jitterbug 18J is a soft made, clean fronted and nice uddered female that we feel will be an asset to our herd as she matures. This little roan sweetheart is going to be a fun one to watch grow as she continues to change the longer she is on feed.

The youngest heifer on offer from us, but one we were excited to have in our replacement pen. “Fancy Dancer” was purchased from Rocky Bishop (Cointreau Farms) as a calf. With some powerful Creekside bloodlines to back her up, we knew she was going to be an asset. Fancy Dancer was rebred to Lingley’s John Kinney for a 2024 calf.

37L is the last of our Creekside Moonlight Crush 12c calf crops before walking pastures at Cointreau Farms. We were fortunate to have Crush 12c influence our herd for the time we had him. Still the easiest keeping bull we have ever had. We have had great success in outcrossing his daughters to other influential bloodlines. Lover Girl 37L will be a fun one to play with. We think this heifer is going to get better and better with age and produce some offspring that we will see in the show ring.

Clay and I did a lot of research and studying of bull pedigrees and bloodlines and spoke to a lot of breeders of bulls that intrigued us. Our decision to cross 30B with Little Cedar Worldwide 1979 is a mating we are extremely excited about. Winning Reserve National Champion in both 2020 and 2021 at Denver and Oklahoma and now siring many top selling daughters across the States, this bull went to the top of our list. We feel the combination of 30B’s broodiness, maternal capabilities and body type, crossed with Worldwide’s style and performance is going to drop some calves that will be the talk of the Canadian Shorthorn Breed. Powerful in the show ring or the pasture is our goal for this crossing. We believe in our decision so much for this mating that we have decided this will be the only offering up for grabs.
