1920's




1920s Makeup Application Face: Choose foundation that matches the skin. Mix in a lighter foundation or a white and apply. Dark pink cream blush on the upper cheekbones. Brows: Use a dark brown or black liner and apply onto thinly tweezed eyebrows. Apply as one, elongated line. Eyes: Black kohl liner on upper and lower lash lines. Smudge the liner. Pat on black shadow. Blend up and smoke out. Allow for it to get greasy and look messy. Use vaseline if preferred. Apply a generous amount of mascara. Lips: Line lips shorter and smaller than its natural shape. (Cut off corners and create new ones.) Use dark red or burgundy lipstick.


1930's




1930s Makeup Application Face: Choose foundation that matches the skin. Apply lightly so that it looks transparent. Apply a light contour in the hollows of the cheek and highlight as well. Light pink or raspberry blush on upper cheekbones. Brows: Rounded brows beginning at the natural inner corner then curved immediately until it meets the natural arch. Apply thinly and elongate the line. Use a brown or dark brown. Eyes: Apply brown shades of shadow. Contour the natural shape of the eye with a darker brown. Brown liner on lash lines. Place false lashes. Lips: Outline lips and apply a bright red or mauve lipstick.


1940's



1940s Makeup Application Face: Choose foundation that matches the skin. Powdered finish using translucent powder or powder compact all over to set makeup. Rose or pink blush on upper cheekbones. Brows: Slightly defined matching the natural colour using a pencil. Eyes: Beige or light brown single shadow over the lid. Black or brown pencil lining the top lash line. Dark mascara. Lips: Red-brown or red-pink lipstick.


1950's




1950s Makeup Application Face: Choose foundation that matches the skin. Apply with more full coverage. Keep skin matte. Rose or coral blush applied on the upper cheekbones very lightly. Brows: Defined brows using pencils to create strokes for texture. Eyes: Natural, contoured eye shading around the eye shape. Lined lash line with black liquid liner extending up and out with a defined wing. Dramatic false lashes. Lips: Vibrant liners and lipsticks in red, pinks, and oranges on the lips. Draw an exaggerated, dramatic pout. Gloss on top.


1960's




1960s Makeup Application Face: Sheer, liquid foundation in natural skin tones. Allow transparency and shine for this look. Use taupe or brown to define hollows of cheeks. Apricot or pale-pink blush on the cheekbones. Brows: Follow natural brow for a groomed application. Eyes: White shadow over the lid. Black gel liner on upper lash line and above the crease. (Use white liner first on the lid if needed to ensure exact shape of eyes are matching.) Draw bottom lashes in the bottom outer corner of the eye. Use white in the waterline and lash line. Draw new bottom lash line with black liner. Apply falsies on top and bottom lash lines. Lips: Pink-nude, natural lip. Allow for some frost if preferred.


1970's



1970s Makeup Application Face: Extra light coverage. Dewy, glow-y skin with a shine. Use a strobe cream or vaseline to add to glow. Bronzer to warm the skin up with a burgundy contour. Highlight prominent areas using a gold/pearly highlighter, or shimmer shadow. Brows:Â Naturally groomed brows with only a small amount of product, if needed. Eyes: Brown and gold shadow extended over the brow bone for a longer smokey look. Brown shadow as liner. Natural falsies or individual lashes. Lips: Frosted rusty-brown lipstick with some gloss on top. Apply shimmer shadow as frost if needed.


1980's




1980s Makeup Application Face: Fuller coverage foundation application and powdered with a powder puff. Vibrant pink streak of blush across the top of the cheekbones and up onto the temples. Brows: Defined, fuller brows using shadow or pencil. Eyes: Three bold colours of shadow applied in separate areas and blended individually, then blended very carefully together without creating a new colour between. Black liner circling the eye. Natural falsies for lashes. Lips: Dark red or burgundy lipstick.


1990's



1990s Makeup Application Face: Dark concealer and light foundation to contour face. Lightly buff together using colour-match foundation. Use light concealer to highlight and matte brown powder to contour (again). Use rose blush on upper cheekbones. Brows: Bolder brows with defined arch. Eyes: Eye contour using brown shadow following natural shape of the eye. White on top of lid. Black liner but no wing or extension. Lips: Line lips with brown. Blend in but allow for line to still be visible. Add light nude lip liner over lips. Light-pink nude lipstick on top, blended in.
