Sponsorship Opportunities A FUNdraiser for The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
Here’s What... WHAT’S BETTER THAN BACON? Your support of the Kroc Center’s life changing programs is better than bacon to me. And I love, Love, LOVE Bacon! Last year in 2015, the Omaha Kroc Center, through support like yours was able to provide just over $93,000 in scholarships to local families that desperately needed family friendly programs to enrich their lives. Families are having their lives changed; through swim lessons for children, sports programs for youth, and parenting classes in partnership with Boy’s Town at the Kroc Center, in both Spanish and English. A Third Place…that is what the Kroc Center is to the 3,200 members who attend the life changing activities we offer every day. It is because of you and your desire to make a difference and your support for the Omaha Kroc Center which allows us to offer broader horizons, brighter futures and a chance for people to discover and develop their talents. Thanks, your support is truly “Better than Bacon” to us.
Major Todd Thielke Senior Kroc Center Officer
We can HELP bring our city TOGETHER by declaring our LOVE to all of its children and showing them the FAITH we have in their FUTURE. – Joan Kroc In January of 2004, Joan Kroc, wife of the McDonald’s restaurant chain founder Ray Kroc, left a gift of $1.5 billion to The Salvation Army to build and operate community centers around the country. Joan’s vision was that people in underserved areas would be given access to a high quality facility with a variety of programs so they might discover their natural gifts and talents. Kroc Centers are now located in 26 cities, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico!

The Omaha Kroc Center, which opened in the fall of 2009, is one of six located in The Salvation Army’s Central Region. It was made possible through both the generosity of Ray and Joan Kroc as well as the Omaha community.
Here’s Why...
To Help Families Move Forward When I met Mia Garcia a couple of years ago, you would never have known that her family was managing such difficult issues. She was always among the most animated and outgoing of the kids in our Center, and would come up and greet me with a big smile. Her story shows so many things, but mostly it is about resilience and how the Kroc Center is often exactly what people need. Mia’s family did not need the services provided at The Salvation Army’s Lied Renaissance Center on Cuming Street – and because of their own resolve and time here, they probably won’t. What they needed was a place to be together as a family, where they could have fun, take care of their health, swim and get homework help, a place to escape their problems for a while and feel less alone. The Kroc Center is that place. Your decision today to sponsor BaconFest Omaha will help us identify and engage families like Mia’s and create a plan that helps them move forward. The more you give, the more we can offer to families like Mia’s.
Mia’s Family:
Her grandmother was diagnosed with diabetes and told she had to take care of her body, or suffer some very unpleasant consequences. At about the same time, Mia’s father was diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery and rehabilitation, which caused him to miss work. In addition to the normal isolation of an English-as-a-second-language family, Mia and her family now faced uncertainty about the future due to health and financial pressures. Mia’s mother met with a family counselor, who suggested they get out and become involved with the community. The Kroc Center used resources provided by donors like you to grant a membership scholarship for Mia’s family. The results have been great – Grandma loves Zumba and water aerobics, and her diabetes is under control, and Dad was able to work out here and speed up his rehab. Things are still a little tough but improving.

Here’s How...
How Your Sponsorship Works In 2015, the Omaha Kroc Center invested more than $93,969 in Membership and Program Scholarships and in the past three years, BaconFest Omaha has been a big part of that, raising more than $71,172 for scholarships. The need, however, keeps growing and our goal for 2016 is to raise $100,00 that we can invest in the people of Omaha.

Here’s (Another) Why... “
Join us in Transforming Lives
The Kroc Center has helped us immensely in many ways. My husband and I, as well my parents, have been motivated to improve our lifestyle and have acquired discipline in the aspect of exercise and maintaining a healthier and active life.
”
A couple years ago one of the family members had a life-threatening medical emergency that left their face partially paralyzed. Doctor’s recommended they start working out and living healthier so the whole family started coming to the Kroc Center, Parents, Grandparents and the kids. Today the paralysis is nearly gone and the whole family has benefitted from their Kroc Center membership.
“
The Kroc Center has also helped with the academic education of our children. We utilize the After School Program and Camp Kroc in the summer. The kids have greatly improved their studies and reading thanks to these programs. The Kids’ Grandparents have benefitted as well because they participate in fitness classes and have been able to maintain a healthier lifestyle. It is because of all of the wonderful things the Kroc Center is to our family that we are very grateful to be given the opportunity to join this center and take part in all it has to offer.” – Angelica, Kroc Center Scholarship Recipient
”
AT THE SALVATION ARMY KROC CENTER people are inspired to DISCOVER their God given talents and
DEVELOP their POTENTIAL through artistic, educational, physical and spiritual experiences in a Christ-centered atmosphere.
