Community Center: Finding and keeping the difference that makes a difference
Guadalajara, Mexico
The community center is an investigation into contemporary design in non contemporary spaces. This was a study abroad program in Guadalajara, Mexico that spanned over the course of six weeks, three of which was spent on site in San Marcos de las Canas. While on site, investigative and informative drawings were produced, as well as investigation into what type of spatial design the community felt would be beneficial to them.
San Marcos de las Canas Community Center places a special emphasis on the spaces in between buildings - the spaces where interaction and community building occurs outside of the classroom. These public spaces welcome the visitor into the space, bringing one down into the earth before entering.
How architecture is constructed is often the most important - and sometimes the most overlooked part of building design. The consruction of San Marcos de las Canas Community Center is heavily influenced by the contruction of the surrounding city. Each space prvoides it’s own sense of place and then is encapsulated by a larger skin that provides a net which

The map to the left is the current greenspace Greenwithin New York City. If the proposed Green house was added as an addition to Chelsea, each resident would more than double the amount of greenspace that they currently come in contact with.
Greenhouse : an Urban Ecology New York, New York
Greenhouse: an Urban Ecology investigates the social impact of a literal urban jungle within the neighborhood of Chelsea in New York City. The site is a whole city block that is intersected by the highline, though no access points were allowed onto the highline. The Greenhouse offers a place of retreat from the otherwise tree-less sidewalks and spaces of New York by proposing an interior greenspace that can be enjoyed from the street as well as a resident.
The individual units in cloud tower each have their own private gardening space where some portion of the households food can be grown. These garden spaces would include irrigations systems that begin on the rooftop and drickle down from one space to the next. Large communal garden spaces are found between breaks in buildings this communal space will strengthen community within each residential unit by providing a space for all to gather.
