Design Concept

Being mesmerised by these ring patterns during my visit to Terengganu, I was inspired to use them as a scheme for my building.

I’m interested in making connections between these two different kinds of information, the natural and the artificial. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that with a single sweep, tree rings could be imitated so accurately including early wood, fire scars, false rings, fungus and so on.

Process A collection of 24 pieces of ring patterns were gathered and under scrutiny , only 10 pieces of ring patterns were chosen. These ring patterns were stamped on papers to give a brief image and inspiration to use them as the scheme.

Conclusion

Conclusion

All these wall panel are casted by the ring patterns. These can contribute a natural feeling to the people who are living in these bustle and hustle city. Whether its’s natural or artificial, light is the important element to be considered when designing a space. The resin acts as a transparent wall panel allowing the sight of structure as well as the entrance of light into the space, making the room more lively.

Case Study

Introduction Junshan Cultural Center is located just outside of Beijing in the midst of the undulating mountain ranges and meandering rivers near the Miyun Resevoir. Originally just a typical two-story sales building on the outskirts of Beijing, Neri&Hu was asked to transform this donut-shaped building into an iconic clubhouse and sales center.

Concept Drawing inspiration from its context, the architecture combines traditional northern architecture with contemporary architectural language and transforms into a new interpretation of architectural expression. The building quietly rises out of the water as a brick mass with carved out spaces for programs interlocked with gardens that blur the boundary between inside and outside.

Project 3

Case Study

Skin Design On the façade, warm-toned wood pattern aluminum panels form a veil that softens the heaviness of the brick facade. Moments of the screen connects with each interior space, creating a façade that is spontaneous and different on every face. Spaces organisation In terms of materiality, traditional gold brick tiles form the foundation of the building mass, extending from exterior landscape into the interior “in-between” spaces. With brick and wood panels as the primary backdrop for the interior, a common theme throughout the interior is the sculpted ceiling.

Case Study Project 3

Inside, all of the Junshan Cultural Center's interiors are positioned with views of the new outdoor spaces, which Neri&Hu has designed to blur the boundary between the outside and inside. This sensation is enhanced by "extending the exterior landscape into the interior", where the same brick used to clad the building's facade also lines many of the interior walls.

Introduction Project 3

In this project,TRD buidling which is also known as the Tree Ring Date building, is built in a village of Terrenganu called Pura Tanjung Sabtu. This TRD buidling is a cultural centre for tourist to know more about the timber craving.

Traditional Method Project 3

Design is traced and transfered to the object such as panel

The unwated parts are cut out and then discared.

Carving the wood panel by using a hyriad of carving tools to pare, chisel, shave, drill, and dig to bring the design to life.

Polised using emery paper now wheras the dried skin of the stringray or the leaf of a wild plant called “mempelas

Construction Details Project 3

Based on my design studio project, a pile foundation will be used for the building construction. Strip foundation is a type deep foundation. When the bearing capacity of the subsoil is unsuitable to support loads, a deep foundation is used. They transfer the foundation to a deeper layer which getting a higher bearing capacity from the soil. Pile foundation Is suitable when the soil quality is poor which can related to Pura Tanjung Sabtu as the place is near to the River Nerus. Besides that, pile foundation is formed by long, slender, columnar elements and is made from reinforced concrete. This provide a stable substructure to support my building.

Project 3

Construction Details

Brick noggin partition wall is used as internal partitioning system in my project. The wall is built with brick and the assists of framework. The timber framework includes vertical post and horizontal member which is studs and nogging. The distance between studs is 150cm and is hold by the nogging.

The framework provide a stable partition against the vibrations caused and stability. The bricks are laid flat and its cover by the plaster on the both sides. The size of the studs and nogging is 20cm which depends on the partition wall. That’s a layer of coal tar coated between the timber frame work and brick work.

Construction Details Project 3

For roofing Part, my design will be using flat roof. Considering the function, at the same time don’t overshadow the beauty of the façade, this is why flat roof is chosen. The flat roof construction is made up of steels that laid across two uprights. To provide an extra stability to the roof structure, the Rolled Steel Joists are often built into one or both walls. Between these joists space, there are a fixed distance apart, which is approximately 400mm. The specified distance is depends on the wideness that they are covering. Beside that, the covering will Stirling board, when timbers are utilized in the flat roofing, the materials have to be waterproofed and thus, the boards will be put across the joists and rubber is used to envelope the boards to make them water-resistant.
