Amazon HQ1’s Impact on Seattle, Washington 2008 - 2018

Amazon HQ1 in Seattle In December 2007, Amazon announced that they were moving their HQ to Seattle. • Seattle city government’s estimate was that Amazon would create 6000 jobs in four years. • By 2018, Amazon took over downtown Seattle with 37 office buildings, employing more than 40,000 people. The following slides will show the real estate price appreciation for that given period for five of the zip codes in Seattle. The following were observed: • Zip codes with the highest median property price rose the most in terms of property value • Zip codes with the least median property price rose the least in terms of property value • Upscale residential areas rose far more than urban high density areas.
