“Presentation” • Problem, Causes, Effects, Solution/Action • Don’t bombard the visitor with facts • Show connections between facts and the central idea • Tell the “big idea” • Then add evidence as support • Look at rubric and self assess


Example • Animal abuse in Hong Kong is a big problem because... • Many pets abused, mainly dogs and cats • Animals on farms and markets are living in horrible conditions before they are slaughtered. It is really inhumane. • Animals in captivity, such as in Ocean Park, are made to behave unnaturally by performing in shows and wearing costumes


Example • These are all examples of animal abuse in HK because animal abuse is when the Five Freedoms of Animals are violated. These are: • Freedom from hunger and thirst • Freedom from discomfort • Freedom from pain, injury or disease • Freedom to express normal behaviour • Freedom from fear and distress


Example • The main causes of animal abuse are • ignorance • insensitivity


Example • The effects of animal abuse are: • animals suffering uncessarily • lack of empathy in humans • an insensitive society/environment


Example • Action that people can take to prevent this problem: • become educated about the problem • be better pet owners • find out how to take care of pets • speak up when you see animal abuse • donate to, or join, animal rights organizations
