HELLO, PLEASE ENJOY MY PORTFOLIO...

For this project I decided to expand on a previous logo I had created. I originally created a box for a straight razor and a sticker to go along with the product. The company I created is called Cut Throat Razor Company. This name was selected for the company because it’s humorous as well as viable. The kit includes a straight razor, shaving brush, shaving cream, and 2 hot towels. Each item is packaged in an individual box and then packaged within another larger container. The target audience for this product is the rockabilly and greaser demographic.

This project was created for an Information Graphics course at San Diego State University. The project includes one brochure, one poster, and one web motion with a total of five graphic models throughout the process of all three. The project is mainly based around the social issue of the teen abortion, pregnancy, and birth rate in the United States being monumentally higher than other countries. I believe education is the main key to reducing the teen abortion, pregnancy, and birth rates in the United States. If teenagers had more access to sexual education classes, books, and information, this could influence a significant reduction in the national rate. The audience I wish to influence is mainly parents and educators. Although, the brochure, poster, and web elements can all be viewed as separate pieces, they also operate as a cohesive system. Photography, color, and typography were the main approaches that were used to connect the system. The colors chosen for the palette consist of Reds, Yellows, and Oranges. These colors were chosen carefully because the idea is to grab the attention of the viewer and make them wonder, “What is that? Myriad Pro is the only typeface that is used in different weights and strokes consistently throughout all three designs. Some words have a red line crossing through characters, and are used to represent censorship and taboos on the featured topics.

This project was based off an idea to create an accordion book using the typeface Verdana. The typeface is intended to display information about the designer Matthew Carter while showcasing the typeface in different examples of use. The color palette chosen includes black and red with tints of both colors. This book has a variety of layouts and creative ways of displaying the typeface, which is used in a variety of different sizes to create a sense of depth.

I wanted to display my personal work to show some of my interests as well as talents beyond the computer. Included are several different paintings mostly made with acrylic or oils. The time needed for these paintings ranges from 3 hours to 10 hours depending on the size and medium. Please enjoy.

This is a branding project that began with the store name Smokin. Smokin is a cigar company with several different lines, one is named the Innovators Edition, which is based on a few original jazz artists. The next line is called the Bebop Edition, which is derived from that specific era of jazz. The last line, Diva Edition, references the early female jazz artists. The colors were selected as the cigar company is located in New Orleans, and the bright colors of jazz and the regions heritage are used. Each line of cigars comes in a different size box, and highlights the importance of each artist. The three lines of cigars come in one large boxed set of 9 cigars total. Smokin contributes 15% of all profits made in the store to the Jazz Half Marathon, which takes place in New Orleans every year.

Toothpaint is a glow in the dark toothpaste that continues to glow until all the areas that need to be cleaned are brushed. This product is geared towards children 10 and under, and is also appealing to the parent because they will be able to tell if their child has brushed their teeth properly or not. Children love to be creative and be involved with art. The message to be communicated is that brushing your teeth is fun! Toothpaint also has a mouthwash, toothbrush and a dental floss that changes colors with each use. The packaging containing the Toothpaint can be reused as a box that holds the plastic paint containers. The plastic stackable containers can be reused as a real paint holder or can be an organizer for small products like paperclips, tacks, beads etc. Toothpaint is an originally designed package with the logotype die-cut from the package, so the child can view the glittery toothpaste that is enclosed within the box.

Above: The image to the left is a mood board that was created to spring up ideas. The middle and right image are flat files for process of the Toothpaint box design.

Right: The creative part of Toothpaint is that it comes with several different colors of paint so the child is able to choose which glow in the dark color to brush his or her teeth with. The paints slide comfortably into the large Toothpaint box.

This design was created for The School of Music and Dance Department at SDSU. From the original poster I expanded the project and created tickets and a postcard to show different ways the design could be applied. The concept was to express the uniting of the SDSU Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony playing together for the first time. The title of the concert was named Electric Fusion. The creative layout I chose to use was from one of my original sketches that started as an outline and evolved into the color illustration. The visual can be described as a musical landscape reflecting my interpretation of the music. I decided to put all of the type together at the bottom to create a sense of balance in the composition, and left the top area of the poster open with enough negative space to allow the viewer to focus on the image. The colors used were bright, warm and intense like the music. The focus was to create a vibrant poster with a creative image that draws the viewer in closer to read more. I believe this poster will appeal to the target of donors, family and students on the SDSU campus.

This project was created for the San Diego State University’s Graphic Design program to create a new Graphic Design Program description/course list in poster and booklet form for the department at San Diego State University. When creating this design with class partner Cristina Flores, it was important to incorporate the college’s colors because having pride in the college is essential. The design layout incorporates the use of photography, and incorporates a collage type feel without using actual collage. Vertical strips of red duotone photos were used to accomplish this goal. It was important to create a design layout that was easy to read and well organized. Inside the booklet each new section year begins with a white background to introduce the starting of a new section. The vertical strips of photos are used throughout the booklet to mimic the poster and create a sense of unity between the two. Arial was chosen for the typeface because it is simple, easy to read and also web friendly. The design created for the poster and booklet is well-organized, realistic to produce and webcompatible.

This collection of posters was created for an actual client in the Design Studio course at San Diego State University. The posters included were created for The Great American Trailer Park Musical. The client for this project wanted the design to emphasis a “white trash theme with a playful, sexy and lighthearted mood. The poster design is created to attract students on SDSU campus, and to promote attendance to the musical. The posters are lively designs that are meant to reflect the mood of the musical.

High Octane Whiskey is a creative use of integrating the hot rod culture with the social act of drinking. The High Octane Brand consists of three different types of whiskey. Two in the set are smaller sized whiskey bottles, one contains a sour mash and the other is a malted barley. The one large bottle contains a twelve-year aged whiskey that comes in a special case. The colors of the bottles are flat black and primer gray to stick with the theme of how most hot rods are painted. The flat black is on the two smaller bottles and the primer gray is on the one special twelve-year bottle. The twelve-year whiskey case is also a primer gray to match the bottle that sits inside of it. The images are my original photos, and have been adjusted in Photoshop to achieve the final effect.
