BIOGRAPHY

Little Planets 2 took place in September 2016 at the project space tête in Berlin (GER). This was the second solo exhibition of visual artist Jérémie Gerhardt.

Jérémie Gerhardt is a French visual artist born in 1977 in Paris (FRA). He started his studies on computer vision and color science at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie. After a master in Montréal and a PhD on multispectral color reproduction in Gjøvik and Oslo, he worked as a color scientist in Berlin from 2008 to 2014.

The exhibition was composed of three works combining prints of different sizes and a video installation: - three square images of 80x80cm hung on a wall (page 6, 7 and 10) a mosaic made of 25 images* of square, landscape and portrait format on the opposite wall (page 8, 9 and 11 to 29) a video slideshow with animated little planets (page 30 to 35) All works have been produced by the artist. *all pictures have been printed once except mention below the image title

Using open source programming tools a treatment is applied to those panorama pictures, which allows viewers to experience a full multi-directional panorama while looking in only one direction, as if one was using a spyglass to observe the scene from space.

Jérémie Gerhardt has been practicing photography since his youth. While experimenting with panorama pictures and virtual reality he searches ways to save a field of vision, to fix the memory of a space surrounding the photographer. A usual way of visualising 360° panorama is to project the image on a curved screen to reproduce the conditions in which the image was taken or to use a virtual reality headset.

L’exposition Little Planets 2 s’est tenue en septembre 2016 à l’espace tête à Berlin (GER). C’est la seconde exposition solo de l’artiste visuel Jérémie Gerhardt.

Jérémie Gerhardt est un artiste visuel français né à Paris en 1977 (FRA). Il débuta ses études en vision par ordinateur et science de la couleur à l’Université Pierre et Marie Curie. Après un master à Montréal et un PhD sur la reproduction spectrale des couleurs à Gjøvik puis Oslo, il travailla comme scientifique de la couleur à Berlin de 2008 à 2014.

Par l’utilisation d’outils de programmation open source des transformations sont appliquées à ces images panoramiques, ceci permettant aux spectateurs de vivre cette expérience immersive et multidirectionnelle en ne regardant que dans une direction, comme si quelqu’un regardait la scène vue de l’espace avec une longue vue.

L’exposition était composée de trois oeuvres combinant des impressions de taille différente et une installation vidéo: trois images de 80x80cm accrochées au mur (page 6, 7 et 10) une mosaïque d’images* de taille différente sur le mur opposé (page 8, 9 et 11 à 29) - une installation vidéo avec projection de petites planètes animées et un diaporama (page 30 à 35) Chaque oeuvre a été produite par l’artiste. *toutes les images ont été imprimées une fois pour l’exposition sauf celle avec mention sous leur titre

Jérémie Gerhardt pratique la photographie depuis sa jeunesse. C’est en expérimentant la photo panoramique et la réalité virtuelle qu’il chercha à capturer un champ de vision de plus en plus grand, un moyen de fixer l’espace autour du photographe. Une façon habituelle pour visualiser des panorama couvrant 360° est de projeter les images sur des écrans incurvés pour reproduir des conditions de prise de vue réelle ou alors d’utiliser un 5
