This project looks towards creating a mental heath facility on the site with the motto of creating a space that aids retreat, restoration and rehabilitation. Our health centre will focus on the youth population — the site being situated in proximity to a number of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions lends itself to such a focus.

TIM / MALE, 19, LIVES IN THE SOCIAL HOUSING ESTATE
Jenny commutes to the health center everyday from her home in Brunswick. She is a dietitian and addictions therapist taking sessions throughout the day with groups and individuals.
Tim left school at 17 to take up a trade apprenticeship as a carpenter. He recently injured his back at work which required surgery. The rehab process will take up to six months through which he cannot work.
STRESSES of the job are an important factor to consider. The situations and circumstances that Jenny encounters as part of her day-today can be both confronting and disturbing for her personally. The REFLECTIVE AND RELIEVING LANDSCAPING POCKETS of the building and the extensive landscaping will cater for her needs to recalibrate and relax through the day during breaks in her work and addresses the anxiety of carers/practitioners.
A COMMUNAL HEALTH SPACE is important to Tim in both the healing and seeking counseling for the accident and keeping mentally engaged through his time out of work. The PROXIMITY of the site to his home is key also as Tim cannot afford to commute. The alternate use of the site as a RELAXATION AND RECREATION precinct will also provide Tim’s needs for local youth engagement and interaction.
