Jeremy Miller, start-up and entrepreneurial expert, is best known as the Chairman and Founder of Health-E Commerce, the parent brand of FSA Store, HSA Store, WellDeserved Health, Medicare OTC, and Caring Mill. He is also well-known for helping aspiring entrepreneurs reach their goals and investing in the local community via volunteering and generous financial contributions. Early Life and Work Jeremy Miller earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from The University of California's Haas School of Business in 2001. After graduating, he became a manager of operations at Gehry Partners, LLP, a full-service architectural firm established in 1962 by famous architect Frank Gehry. Miller supervised the company's expansion into three international cities, managed and coordinated operations of more than one hundred global consultants on three continents, acted as a liaison between regional project managers and clients, forecasted revenues and profits, and managed the human relations department, among other duties. Miller left Gehry Partners LLP to study entrepreneurship and management at Columbia Business School in New York. During his studies, he made the Dean's List and worked as a teaching assistant for the university's Greenhouse Entrepreneurship Program and Launching New Ventures Program. It was during this time that he came up with an idea to start a healthcare firm based on helping employees understand and make the most of flexible spending accounts (FSA). An FSA, which is arranged with an employer, enables employees to spend their income tax-free on medical expenses; however, as Miller found when working at Gehry Partners LLC, many employees didn't understand how the process worked and was forfeiting the ability to cover healthcare-related expenses without paying taxes on the income used for this purpose. Jeremy Miller Founds Health-E Commerce Jeremy Miller's new business idea won Columbia Business School's Odyssey Global MBA Award for Best Entrepreneurial Business Idea. What's more, the school's Lang Fund, together with other Angel investors, provided Jeremy Miller with the funds he needed to get his new business off the ground. Health-E Commerce started operations in 2010 with the stated goal of "simplifying the U.S. tax-free healthcare market and helping everyday Americans and companies benefit better from workplace benefits, wellness, and health spending programs." The company's FSA store was founded in the same year to simplify the FSA market and make it easy for consumers to see which products/services can be covered under an FSA account. It was the first e-commerce site focused solely on FSA-eligible products and currently has the most comprehensive eligibility list for user convenience. Not one to rest on his laurels, Jeremy Miller founded the HSA store in 2015. The store is designed to help individuals with a health savings account (HSA) find HSA-eligible products quickly and easily, maximize health savings and stretch HSA funds to cover everyday healthcare-related expenses. Caring Mill, founded in 2017, is a private-label line of health and wellness products. For each product purchased, Health-E Commerce makes a donation to the Children's Health Fund to provide quality healthcare to needy children. The store broke ground as the first enterprise to enable Americans to use tax-free money to support a non-profit organization. Well Deserved was launched in 2019 to enable shoppers to purchase health-related items with Wellness Rewards. Health-E Commerce’s most recent business venture, Medicare OTC Store is a customized platform designed to make it easy for senior citizens to shop for products covered by Medicare Advantage plans' supplemental OTC benefits. Health-E Commerce has been widely successful. It has a customer base of over 200,000 people. Thanks to his winning business model, Jeremy Miller was listed as an EY Entrepreneur of the Year
in 2018. His company has also received Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Awards from 2016 to 2020 for being one of the fastest-growing companies in the United States. Building Community and Helping Charity Jeremy Miller has always cared for the less fortunate. He not only gives generous financial contributions from sales made on Caring Mill but also volunteers with Save the Children, American Cancer Society, Relay for Life Manhattan, and Children's Health Fund. Additionally, Jeremy Miller has gone out of his way to ensure his business is an ideal workplace for employees. Health-E Commerce employees receive full health, vision, and dental benefits, have access to a 401(k) program, receive flexible spending and health savings accounts, and can avail themselves of telecommuting days and paid time off. The company's Culture Committee regularly plans fun events to help employees relax and get to know each other, including boat trips, movies, dinners, laser tag, virtual scavenger hunts, paint parties, and more. It's no wonder that Health-E Commerce was listed as one of Crain's Best Places to Work NYC for three years straight. Personal Life Jeremy Miller is a big believer in the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. When not on the job, he enjoys meditating, boxing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
