PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

TEMPORALITY The city is small but its ambition with this project is significant. Our aim is to strategically activate the green-field site by locating the first intervention. This strategy allows us to test the site reactivity and its operating functioning. Contingent on results, the next step of revitalization will be triggered, the urbane intentions modified or even stopped whether it’s necessary or not. To reach our objectives, we developed work tools and sketch a first temporary version without claiming it as a final one: this is improbable that the project follows a daily linear evolution of our master plan. Our first intention is to reveal the site’s potencies which will encourage screenplay evolution. FRAMEWORK Our method was to established an unyielding setting on which can be based all the undergoing radical transformations. Second step consists in twisting, breaking down and capturing to reward. The city lives through all these confines from which we learn to release. The site was defined by its framework from north to south and gain flexibility in its east/west orientation. Then we decide to widen four specific lines, in order to give them more flexibility: one links downtown to the project, another one shelters the station platform, and the two last ones are in a line with the street. FRAME / RAILWAY This setting is a possibility to tackle the railroad aspect and allow us to formulate three answers: 1. The crossing: the crossing scheme of railroad arrangement confers to the setting an accessibility function. It gives an answer to link program components crossing railroad. The core of the setting shows few space qualities because of the railroad that cuts it down in two parts. However the frame offers with its strategic position the means to access to all programs (car park and railway station). By settling the choice of car park into the project core is our claimed will. Cars parked on the roadside are a visual pollution: saving surrounding area in region favor. SCHEMA 2. The spacing (the distance): by moving away from the railroad, the ambit offers the potential for independent programs, for which train traffic represents public nuisance. In this case, the core of the project becomes a protected area, auspicious either for housing or also for cultural complex. 3. The inclusion: in this case, the thickness is used to creep

into the station platform. FRAME QUALIFICATION OUT SIDE AREA The frames cutting on the site outlines are the occasion to reward the form and diversify uses to vary stiff drawing. The inside and the outside basic notion becomes more relative, however it allows us to characterize intervention grades. The inside is pedestrian, it is pointing up. Wildland outside, it is a buffer area design for cars to enter into the site. ROOFING HIGH Buildings are playing with the site by touching lightly limits to promote the inside. The construction becomes integrated in the urban frame, with respect of Kisa two parts roof, and by refusing street aligning. The frame height is increasing by coming near of rail road, reinforcing the belief of low-density from the outside and making easier rail road crossing.

STEP 1

NODES /CONNECTION The node If the project roots are in the principle of frame as discussed previously, that’s finally the interlacing of these frames which is our main goal. The crossing reveals an area on which principles programs can be developed. The frame established in its center is the essential place of the project. It can stay vacant (cultural area) to put in place courtyard which develops its own qualities: it could be partially filled (train station), or completely filled (market). Connections In practical terms, connections are linear areas that are not associated to the principle programs. The porosity characterizes the connections. Outside areas to these connections are scattered of programs, offering many possibilities. Then, we are looking for complicate this dualistic definition. In one hand, the principles programs, because they correspond to the interlacing frames, become real pedestrian links. In the other hand, connections are full of little programs.
