A Bengali-language article of Jerome D'Costa on Bhawal Area and its Roman Catholic Christians. This article portrays s short history of the Bhawal rajas (zaminders), a social history of the Christians of Bhawal in coparision to that of the Christians of Atharogram area -- the first being in the north and the second in the south of Dhaka City, Bangladesh. Although both groups of Roman Catholic Christians have Portuguese missionary influence among them and bear Portuguese surnames, socially and economically they were different. This difference gradually broke down after the new political and socio-economic situation in the country with the independence of Bangladesh in 1971.
