This English-language and updated version of Jerome D'Costa's previously published (in the 'Bhawal Barta' of Dhaka in 1987) Bengali-language article narrates the history and expansion of Christianity (Catholicism) in the Bhawal Region of Bangladesh. It covers the greater Catholic parishes of Nagori, Tumilia, Rangamatia, Mausaid, Motbari, and Dharenda (Savar).
It also tells how a Hindu zamindar's (feudal lord's) son became a Catholic and took the name of Antonio da Rosario and became a successful preacher by using Bengali-language devotional songs. He is said to have converted 27,000 to 30,000 low-caste Hindus to Christianity in the Nagori and its neighbouring villages. He also composed a dialogue-style manuscript, called 'Brahman-Roman Catholic Sangbad' -- the first example of prose-writing in the Bengali language!
