A Bengali-language book, translated by Jerome D'Costa, portrays the simple life of Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) -- a village belle to whom Jesus' mother Mary appeared 18 times in visions between February 11 and July 16 of 1858 in Lourdes of France. This book also provides a brief description of each of the apparitions and the messages Our Lady left with Bernadette, who later was declared a saint of the Catholic Church on December 8, 1933.
